As an aviation geek,I love listening to air traffic control audio, and always enjoy the VASAviation YouTube channel, which does a great job coveringnoteworthy air traffic control interactions. Here’s one of the most interesting conversations I’ve heard on frequency in a long time, and it has a very different vibe than the interactions typically covered…

Once had, way back in the late 80's at ZBW ARTCC, a B-52 pilot ask a female controller for some felatio on frequency.

It did not end well for the aviator.

Sorry but it’s really unprofessional and typically American

Is she at the Cleveland Center?
As a female, that's creepy, but have to admit BOLD on the pilto's part to try.
For that reason, I say, so what! I'm old school from a time when guys would actually flirt with girls. Don't mind that myself!

It’s sad this first officer is still working for the airline. These types of pilots only cause further issues later on.

Overreacting too much Icarus?

A bit of cute talk and banter is quite common. You should fly over Saudi airspace and Iraqi airspace, those guys love it

..... and no doubt, she is damn nice and sounds cute.
Easy and knows her job.
So why not get a bit personal.
She's good!
He on the other hand, showed guts too. 😉

Lol, thought the same thing about the second pilot on board. Maybe they were fine with it, but also could've been super awkward for the rest of the flight knowing what he just tried.

Didn't seem threatening and the guy pulled up really quickly in a lighthearted way. Definitely took some guts to try that. The responses from the others on the channel were great

I feel like the Moxie pilot has a katana collection

Wonder what the guy in the other seat was thinking

"is it inappropriate ... " - excellently polite - a good example for consent training.
Allows the other party to easily say "it is" with a variety of tone from deeply disapproving to light-heartedly accepting the compliment.
The lady here gave a clear answer, and no offence taken or given.
If every man behaved ny asking like that, rather than assuming entitlement, MeToo would not have been necessary.

@Lucky,

Did you sell OMAAT to VFTW?

Thought I got re-directed to VFTW, so I had to double check my browser configuration.

Heads up, you missed out on the ATL brawl, coming soon?

Look where banter gets people nowadays with the me too movement. She’ll probably file a complaint in 15 years

Ben has stated he won't cover brawls and similar incidents that exploit the low class or mentally ill. Good on Ben.

Ben has been covering VASA Aviation clips for a long time. While I personally have as little interest in this clip as you do, it's not exploitative and it's in good humor. It won't bait racists and bigots in the comments, as VFTW repeatedly does.

In 5-10 years when Ben retires from travel blogging, he can be proud of his work, as will his son. Gary's kids are going to hate him for being an amoral embarrassment.

Listened to that exchange earlier today. It was a bit creepy. You could tell the other pilots on the frequency were having the time of their lives listening in.

Yeah, the idea that this is inappropriate is why there's all these studies out there showing that so many men in their mid 20's have never approached a woman.

He asked, she said she's married, he laughed it off and both moved on. That's how asking for someone's number / asking someone out is supposed to go.

Since he works for a low cost carrier maybe she was just afraid she’d have to pay for her own dinner.

It is inappropriate to shoot your shot over air traffic frequency. Timing is everything.

Yeah. But this was equivalent to a guy doing this in a meeting in front of other participants. That’s why this was creepy and that other pilot apologized.

People insisting this is creepy is exactly why social interaction has just devolved into dating apps that have their best interests to keep you single. The moment a guy tries to break out of this cycle and actually ask someone for their number they're instantly a creep, such a sad world we live in.

You have the causal arrow backward. Social interaction didn't devolve into dating apps. Dating apps devolved the norms of social interaction. It is now inappropriate to ask women out in any other circumstance. Dating apps are a safe space where women sign up (affirmatively consent) to being courted. If a woman is anywhere other than a dating app, courting her is deemed creepy.

"Consent training" - my goodness, how did we let single catladies define interaction between attractive people.

Here's a bold truth: no matter which obstacles you come up with, normal people will find a way to mate and be together. No amount of consent training will soothe your loneliness.

Take life as a gift! Go to the gym, get a great hobby you love, socialize and forget your myriad of pseudo-diagnoses from whatever. Live your life and be happy. That's what successful people do and you can't stop it. Sorry.

Awkward. He should have found another approach if he was interested. But chops for trying.

"Gary's kids are going to hate him for being an amoral embarrassment."

True dat!

Don't misunderstand, I think Lucky consistently turns out the highest quality content (notwithstanding the occasional strange use of commas) in the points-and-miles genre and it's all the more impressive when one considers the quantity of content and how there's something new even on Sundays and holidays.

Props tot his pilot for putting himself out there. And shame to all those idiots who were enjoying this rejection. Took a lot of courage to do this and maybe struck out this time, but it will be this courage that gets him a significant other.

This is satire, right? Since when are dating apps a “safe space?” lol Women get assaulted all of the time from meeting strangers on dating apps. Living under a rock?

Is it so much to ask to actually get to know somebody first before just up and asking them out? Dating apps widen the pool of possible matches sure, but that doesn't mean that if you hit it off with somebody at a park, bar, cafe, gym, or whatever that you just aren't allowed to ask. Just don't do what this pilot did and ask for a number from somebody you've met 5 minutes ago and said 15 words in total to, because you had to talk to them as part of your job, because that's what makes it creepy.

Spouses meet in unusual ways many times. Sure, many meet on dating Apps but many meet under strange circumstances. It’s incredible how judgy some people are being. The majority of normal, secure women don’t mind being hit on. Who doesn’t like attention? It’s bad when the guy doesn’t take no for an answer. He quickly retreated once she told him she’s married. I see absolutely nothing wrong with what this pilot did especially since he was judging her on her personality and not looks.

Agree. Retired ATC and a bit old school here. Cute and clever and undoubtedly not the first time this has happened. However, ATC frequencies and communications aren’t intended for this kind of nonsense.
