Oneworld Headquarters Moving To Fort Worth, Texas
The oneworld alliance has announced plans to move its headquarters. I’m not reading too much into this, but maybe I’m just naive.

If I had to guess, I would think this move is also for tax implications, TX vs NY as well as addressing logistical challenges. Possibly received a corporate tax break from TX to relocate...
Worth noting that Canadian Airlines International was a founding oneworld member - they’ve just been gone for about 20 years.
CP was based in Calgary with significant international services from Vancouver.
Awaiting Tim Dunn’s take on why this is, of course, a bad move/shows weakness by American, vs. whatever Delta’s done with SkyTeam, which is, of course, genius/a play from strength for them.
Are there really that many staff? I imagine the airline alliances all have small staffs. What do they do besides coordinate schedules and maybe process revenue sharing or payments between member airlines?
My thought exactly the execs get a big tax break in TX and the alliance gets free rent. Probably a win win
Oneworld did indeed have a Canadian airline as a founding member. Google is your friend.
Speaking of oneworld, I for one would like to see more a/c in their alliance scheme. CX has the oneworld livery on 4 of their 77W's as well as a sole A330 but in their previous scheme, and I think BA doesn't have any a/c in alliance colours. I would love to see oneworld colours on any CX Airbus, maybe BA's A350 or 777s, QF's upcoming A350s or 787s and so on.
Yup - they used all the right corporate bullshit lingo but you can bet your last dollar this was based on the bottom line
All LGBTQ one world employees asked to transfer from NYC to DFW have to ask if they will be welcome. Texas isn't very friendly towards you. Same for any females of child bearing age who might view reproductive freedom as important.
… but then, the most logical move would have been to Doha (Qatar), which has neither corpoarate nor personal income tax … and is home QR.
I don't think you have any idea what you're talking about re: LGBT. Per women, I don't disagree that it's a tough ask for them to the state in general
ANd their employees will save a ton of $$$$ with NO State Income Tax ,county paurol tqax or city payroll tax ..figure 20% or more in TAX savings...good for them and the company!!!! nd real estate ois cheaper in TEXAS just like in Florida vs New York/New Jersey?CT/Calif etc!!! win win for them.......
think plan B pill vs getting the inside of their uteerus sucked or ripped out?? much less invasive,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Harder to get execs to move from NY to DOH vs moving to TX
However Doha will be the next location once the TX tax breaks run out
NYC crime is out-of-control.
The tax savings will eventually pay for the move.
Enough said.
Good old Canadian Pacific Airways, CP Airways, CAi, Canadian Airlines. I still torn between the original burnt orange livery and the updated flying goose livery
If we had to choose HQ locations based on every single 'diverse' interest group, we'd get nowhere FAST. And I say this to you as a not-so-straight person [hint]. It's a free market. If you truly feel so terribly uncomfortable and distressed with your company or location: Find. Another. Job.
Anyone who moved to TX knows just how much more expensive property tax and electricity bills (due to the incessant need for aircon) are. Plus lots of expenses on car and gas -- you can't even buy groceries without one (there literally are no corner stores here) and public transportation is a complete and utter joke. And thank goodness we don't have daughters, as the oppressive government dictates their reproductive health.
Best new ever! I live in Fort Worth (which is now bigger than San Francisco, Boston, Washington D.C., Nashville, Seattle, Denver, & Charlotte ALL ON IT'S OWN WITHOUT Dallas. Fort Worth is the 13th largest citu the US on its own. Plus, DFW will soon surpass Chicagoland as the 3rd largest MSA in the U.S. 6 Fortune 500 companies have relocated to DFW in the past 5 years, and more are soon to follow (looking at you Wells Fargo and Goldman Sachs...). Makes total sense from anyway you look at it. MYC is a cesspool of crime and high taxes. Best decision OneWorld has made! Welcome to TEXAS!!!
They didn't want it in London since no one can afford the YQ charges to get there on points.
LOL Barry, my husband and I have lived here forever. No one bothers us and I can assure you we are valued and treated as members of the community. Stop projecting your political views on our state.
"A 2022 study released by national moving company United Van Lines ranked New York as third in the country for highest rates of outbound migration, with the number of residents leave the state almost double the number moving in."
AA clearly built way more at its headquarters facility so it makes sense to rent some of it out to a "friend"
The entire southern tier of the US is exploding in growth and have some of the best business friendly policies so there will be more growth.
Oneworld is the smallest of the 3 alliances so I'm not sure it is accurate to say that they are being the most aggressive in growing; they are behind star and skyteam and that isn't going to be rectified anytime soon.
Add in that Hong Kong is dropping in significance and oneworld is not making huge forward motion.
Lots of major companies are moving out of the northeast. NY, NJ and CT better wake up and smell the tax breaks.
The official 2022 platform of the political party holding power in Texas states unequivocally "Homosexuality is an abnormal lifestyle choice". It then prescribes policy positions accordingly.
This is not a judgment or political view on my behalf. It's straight from the governing party statement.
It's clear that OneWorld airlines are just maneuvering in hopes of having more access to Turkey Pastrami sandwiches. The secret recipe is well guarded, but now...
Keep your stupid, ignorant, prejudiced views about the state in another place. You really want to start dissecting party platform views of every state to draw conclusions about the culture of the state? Party platforms in every state are ridiculous propaganda from the hard right or hard left of the political system and rarely result in any kind of policy from them.
Texas law still criminalizes homosexual activity, despite the Supreme Court invalidating the law in 2003. But please do go on about stupidity and ignorance..
Geez, normally when I describe MAGA people as "illiterati," it's a joke... But this comment really embodies it in a sad way.
Ah, tons of extra unused office space available on AA campus since pandamic. Why pay rent and other building costs elsewhere?
Hmmm. The US has the lowest tax rates among the developed countries. Yet its citizens and corporations value tax incentives as the top priority in life and continue to constantly bitch about high taxes. Taxes are used to pay salaries, benefits and pensions to public employees, social/ educational/ medical services in society, and maintain upkeep of infrastructures and safety measures for all. The only consistent policy of the Republican Party is tax cut. Has there ever been a Republican president since WWII who did not face recession on his watch? Enlighten us. Never use or intent to use medicare after age 65? Devilish socialism. Never sought unemployment insurance during working years? Evil socialism again. Texas is in the news for many of the unimaginable and inexplicable headlines in the country from Susan Smith who drowned her five kids in the bathtub to Uvalde PD whose three hundreds plus of armed cops surrounded the school waiting and watching a dozen elementary kids and teachers die in the hands of a lone teenage shooter. Nothing much to rave about Texas.
I know Star Alliance had a total of 19 employees in 2019 and it is the largest of the three global alliances. I would expect others to have similar or lower employee count.
Your incomplete stats don't include State, City, County, and Borough taxes. Try again.
LOL. Number of airlines doesn't compare to SIZE of airlines. So what if SkyTeam has 30+ members, some of them have less than 10 planes.
They are still expanding the HQ and have land and site plans for additional buildings. But yes, makes sense to share building costs/maintenance/staff.
Barry, as a Gay Texan, who is married to my interracial husband, who lives in Texas, and we are both from here: ON THE GROUND, NONE OF THAT AFFECTS US. There are plenty of crazy laws, regulations, guidelines, and backward people in all 50 states and all the territories and all the counties of the world. Just stop it. No one is listening. People and companies are still moving here and will continue to, no matter how much you scream and tweet and whatever else you say.
Good luck attracting talent to a state w/horrible schooling, crap weather, and no women's rights
I think American has done a very good job demonstrating weakness on their own without the help of Tim Dunn or anyone else, for that matter.
They’re the industry laggard.
What Texans save in state income tax, they pay in higher real estate and sales taxes, compared with many states. Move the HQ to Las Vegas, if that's what you're worried about. What I would worry about, is who in their right mind wants to live and raise a family in Texas?
Any move to Texas is suspect. Texas is a right-to-work-for-less state with fewer worker protections, lower pay, and inferior benefits. It is nearly ideal for a company and a nightmare for workers.
You didn’t mention that the DFW area has some of the highest property taxes in the country. It also has a high sales tax with few exemptions. The toll lanes from FTW to DFW can be higher than three dollars per mile and all they are building are toll roads. In Fort Worth you can be fined if you water your yard more than twice a week but water bills can still exceed 300 dollars per month. Your power bill will be even higher. The good news is when the power goes out, like it did a couple years ago for several days, you don’t get charged. Of course over 200 people froze to death during that event but hey, no income taxes so who cares.
I don’t know of any large city that has gotten better by getting bigger. Fort Worth certainly hasn’t. BTW today’s high was 97.
The LinkedIn page for Oneworld says the company has less than 50 employees so this really seems like a very marginal move with little impact on the DFW economy or any implication for the Oneworld alliance’s strategy which will continue to be driven by its member airlines, not its head office staff.
True, property taxes are higher but still lower than what most states collect for income tax. No comment on your "worry"
There's no point arguing with Tim. He'll always figure out a way to make Skyteam and Delta top regardless of facts. His job is trolling blogs on a delta pension fund that fired him. Don't bother patronizing him. The irony can't be even lost on him they he lives on a pension from a company that hated him enough to fire him.
Oh FFS, is that really your take on an article about aviation corporate real estate? Abortion??!
Any supposed tax break is public record. Can anyone on this thread provide proof? Maybe it exists but maybe not...
Find me all the state laws that still "criminalize" homosexual activity invalidated by that Supreme Court statute, then come back and talk to me. In 2003, Even John Kerry wasn't a fan of gay Marriage. hell, in 2010, Barack Obama had to be told by joe Biden what the right thing to do was on gay rights because he was too held up on political polls. How about you do some research about the laws that still exist on the books about LGBT issues and democratic politicians as recently as 2010 before you spout nonsense about stupid party platforms with little knowledge of what they mean on a blog.
we get it. You don't live anywhere near somewhere where you have to know about your rights but stop trying to posit your extremely prejudiced knowledge on people that know the culture and politics in Texas. Your knowledge is zero. your ignorant mouth is 200% but you love to spout it to seem cool living somewhere else because you don't care to be involved in something outside your own hood and brunch crowd. Keep your ignorance where it is. Outside Texas.
It's funny how you make declarative statements as though they were factual, then appear to pat yourself on the back for it.
JetBlue will likely be relocating to Florida (Orlando? Miramar?) once the Spirit acquisition is complete.
NYC is a disaster.
And there is no Rudy Giuliani-type waiting in the wings to turn things around.
If Zeldin gets elected there may be a chance but the same people who elected DiBlasio TWICE will put Hochul over the top.
The literal definition of insanity.
A gay, Hispanic man was executed on a NYC subway several months ago.
Is that your idea of safety?
I'm not personally advocating for Texas, but since 2020, they have single handedly had more people move into the state, than any other. Why would that be? Florida is 2nd.
Ben,
it really is not disputable that alliance size in order from largest to smallest is star, skyteam and then oneworld.
The number of airlines doesn't mean anything.
In fact, since AA is a less international airline than DL and UA, trying to use the size of AA to "juice" the comparisons doesn't really matter.
oneworld is simply a smaller alliance. Period.
Julie,
you truly live in an alternate reality if you think I - or anyone - got fired and then spend my time talking up the company that fired me.
@MaxPower - you have no idea where I haved lived, the extent of my travels, and what I have seen and experienced. So cut your judgment. As for Texas people, do what you want, but if you choose to refer to Kerry or Obama, note that they have changed their positions on these issues - Texas, at least in the political arena, has not. Also note the attempts to remove the gay prohibition in the Texas legislature over the past few years have all failed, and that the case where the US Supreme Court threw out such laws - Lawrence v. Texas - came from Texas because Texas actually prosecuted gays for being gay. And now at least one SCOTUS justice wants to revisit cases such as Lawrence v. Texas in light of Dobbs overruling Roe v. Wade. For all (whether gay or otherwise) living and enjoying life in Texas, I wish you continued good times and the best of luck.
Speaking of facts, OneWorld IS the most aggressive in growing. Period. What airlines have the other alliances added? And don't mention mergers or anything. You also don't know anything about the AA HQ. I live here. My neighbors work at the HQ. Pure speculation with fuzzy facts from you Tim.
Do you actually live here? Sounds like you don't. The taxes are STILL less than many other areas of the country, my water bill has never been over $50, many places have water restrictions CERTAIN TIMES OF THE YEAR, the tolls change based on traffic patterns (good on you though for googling the absolute highest ever...), everyone likes to mention the winter storm, you know the one that happens once even 200 years as an example of why Texas sucks (lame on your part), and those deaths were STATEWIDE you absolute fool, lastly the temp was 92, and today it's 81. Just stop. Texas is winning and your just a hater.
Will they be given access to the upcoming Skyview 6 swimming pool and other facilities?
No, it's not my take on the article. But it is my take on the comment above to which I was replying to.
Everybody talks about things moving out of NYC - it’s the financial capital of the world. They’ll be fine. When more corporations move to Texas, bringing more diverse and liberally minded people, the politics of Texas will eventually change. Look at California - the home of Ronald Reagan and the golden child of trickle down economics of the 60s and 70s of California state politics. Now, arguably the most liberal politics in the nation. Taxes will eventually have to go up to pay for the lack of investment in social and economic infrastructure (how quickly we forget the entire state lost power because of catastrophically underfunded power grid). Somebody got pay for all that.
So @Dan
Consider how politics have bankrupted CA is recently.
Should we be expecting income tax in TX in the future?
Somebody got pay for all that, right?
Speaking of facts, both of you never did agree what Oneworld is growing. Both can speak the truth and lie at the same time.
More member?
More fleet size?
More miles to redeem award tickets?
More delays?
More disgruntled customer who has to wait to get into lounges?
Once you start travelling outside of USA, certain alliance partners do vary in making decisions, not just the size.
I do question how does @BenjaminGuttery actually lives in the AA HQ, since AA doesn't really have employee housing on site.
Sad to see fellow Americans going against others in a different state while being part of the same country. It's time to skip this hatred towards each other and treat other as fellow Americans and hope for the best for others even if they are not in the same state. Companies move all the time based on the incentives doesn't mean people in other state are bad. Time to grow up America and don't fall for the false bots propaganda on social media
Yikes!
Is your grammar always this slapdash or is English your second language? Just curious.
This "DEE" poster shows up across the travel blogs, and is truly one of the absolute dumbest, least educated posters you will see out there
Do you think now OneWorld might finally sort out their mobile app which is arguably one of the worst apps ever and crashes almost immediately.
Yall Yankees looks like jealously is really a factor. Quit your crying say yall have the Yankees we have the Rangers so even stevens
@ Eskimo.
Not, just your grammar, but your incorrect statement of politics bankrupting California. CA.has the 6th largest economy in the world, and LA is the 8th largest.

@ UA-NYC. Spot on sir! TexAssiztan. As u said, weather, (and w climate dysfunction, will excel even faster there), f%#king w the dominant working pop. uterus’s in this country, last in education and companies have already begun an exodus. Watch what happens if Roe isn’t codified.
As there are more women than men, it’s a very relevant take. And as a member of the latter, you should be damn well concerned when (deity forbid) EVERY women in YOUR life are in danger of losing their lives, raped or victims of incest.
Not w Climate Dysfunction. The 1000 yr., 500 yr., 200 yr., are more like 10, 5 and three.
California has been running a budget surplus for several years. That's far from bankrupt, "Eskimo" (you ought to reconsider that username).
