I seem to get a sense that too many people don't think anyone outside the airline business can run an airline. Sure some outsiders will fail but how many "insiders" have failed, time after time?
Some people are excellent managers or leaders regardless of the industry, and others aren't.
I keep hearing that about AA management, who will take over? My question is, are you really happy with the current team? It isn't as if we are taking a truck driver and making him a pilot. Sure some nuances and in the best case scenario someone who knows the business inside and out can be a benefit but it doesn't have to be that way.
Anything can happen- Oscar of United did not work in the airlines industry before. The two regional presidents of United for West coast and East coast (I don't mean Kirby) did not have airlines industry experience either. It depends on "who you know".
If passengers feel simply so caged and uncomfortable on an airline that they decide to use another airline for their next trip or forgo the trip entirely, how will Norwegian Air ever prosper?
I think it's a very smart choice considering Schram's experience with and understanding of the industry that represents the airline's #1 expense: fuel. His work at McKinsey is an added bonus. He'll get caught up quickly.
Sometimes you need to bring in a total outsider to sort your business out and bring in a new perspective
It's not like he's sorting out flight crew rostas or fixing planes or paying invoices is it? You employ people to do that.
It's his job to lead and reform the business and it looks like he has the skills to do that.
Sometimes the top job merry go around needs to stop otherwise you end up not stopping the rot.
Have you ever worked in Norway? They’re about as patriotic as Americans, but they believe in entrepreneurship, not some education stuff after you go through the army...in Norway education is payed for.
He’s not trying to conquer the global airline business or something, he’s gonna steer up a Norwegian company in a Norwegian business environment.
