As someone who grew up in Tampa, Ive enjoyed seeing the airport continue to grow over the years, and I like to keep tabs on whats going on there. While I dont usually cover individual short and medium haul international route additions, heres one that I find to be pretty cool.

I wish they would had added Atlanta. It is the only big city in the southeast that Avianca doesn’t fly to. It would had been a great destination in their network.
you do realize how difficult it would be for Avianca to break into a market totally controlled by DL/LA?
I live in St. Pete and TPA is of course my airport. I am very excited to see this newest addition to TPA. My partner and I have been planning to visit Columbia this year so great !
My wish for Tampa is that we would have service from Air France; that Lufthansa would replace Discover; that Swissair would replace Edelweiss....I mean if SAN can support JL & LH.....TPA should as well. We are more than just beautiful beaches in this region.
nice article, but i have one small correction: you imply that avianca plans to regularly operate the 188-seat all economy config when in fact they are almost done retrofitting their entire a320 fleet with the C12Y168 (premium, plus, economy) layout. you most likely just happened to look at the flight on a day they will operate one of their last remaining ex viva neos in its original configuration. in fact as of writing there are only three such aircraft left in service, so it is almost impossible to end up on one of these aircraft, and rest assured you will be able to fly plus on this route
