Australia's prisons are luxury compared to one would expect in Thailand!
And before I forget, Happy Pride to you and Ford as well as the rest of the community!
She should consider herself lucky. She would have gotten the death penalty in her home country.
SE Asia : Vietnam , China , Burma , Laos , Cambodia , and now Thailand . The rot spreads out into all corners , like a putrid liquid .
Not sure if they still do but when I flew to Thailand in the early 00s they would print on your boarding pass that bringing in drugs would result in the death penalty. Ditto for Singapore.
This reminds me of Canada's CTV 'The Airport Conspiracy' documentary on youtube which released a few months ago with airport workers swapping bag tags so the passenger unknowingly travels with drugs to New Zealand, Europe etc. I had no idea this was a growing trend in smuggling tactics.
She can still face criminal consequences at home, and she likely will. She had custody of and transporter these drugs in Thailand.
Corruption, dishonesty and cheating at everything is so deeply ingrained in Thai culture, from the top of the government to the lowliest grunt worker. There are zero consequences for "high society" people ("high-so" is how they refer to them), that's been shown over and over for generations, it's so blatant and obvious that nobody even notices. It's everywhere.
She won't get 25 years, but she'll probably get at least three. Australian prison is orders of magnitude better than Thai prison, but it's still no Four Seasons. Her flying career is obviously over too. Oh, well... You roll the dice, and sometimes you lose.
Pete it's they are pretty good that's why we have so many repeat offender's. They are better than so Asian hotels.
I don't think that's the case here. It's more likely naively carrying all types of goods on behalf of acquaintances for a little extra income, not knowing drugs involved, that or stupidity
On the Singapore immigration entry cards, it's printed in big red letters:
"WARNING: DEATH FOR DRUG TRAFFICKERS UNDER SINGAPORE LAW"
It could not be more clear. Yet they still try.
Isn't this why the UK removed visa-free entry for South African citizens, because so many flight attendants were getting busted for drugs?
bummer. probably getting off easy because the crime was discovered in Oz.
Could also be that they are unsuspecting victim and helped move a suitcase....
Lucky she didnt get caught going outbound. She would be put to death....
