Status is more important in Aeroplan than in other loyalty programs, so it's not surprising Aeroplan is looking for ways to keep people "in status". Without status you're not travelling in a premium cabin on AC on points. That problem isn't so pronounced on DL, BA, AA, UA, KL, QR, EK, EY, AF... So I doubt the "keep your status" offers will be as generous from the others, since their members haven't been thrown under the bus the way Aeroplan members were, with last year's epic multi-pronged devaluation.
It looks like any spend you've already achieved this year counts. Is that right?
I thought it we applied and received the Chase Aeroplan Card, the status was already good for this year and 2023 (exp December of 2023)...
I’m curious if status from promotions can be extended. (ie. the Destination Canada Status Match last year)
Great news. I achieved super elite a few years ago and have been extended due to pandemic for two years. While I was probably going to make it again this year - the promotion certainly guarantees it.
I enjoy the status and the benefits, as well as the stress-free travelling and excellent service and quality Air Canada provides.
Am I correct that if you have no status (or have 25k status) this promo isn't that exciting since you can automatically get 25k status as a benefit of getting approved for the Chase Aeroplan Visa?
Hard to qualify for Star Gold just through cc spend unless you fly a lot on AC. So any status you get through cc spend is not worth much on SA. There are some nice redemptions on Aeroplan but not on AC.
It will perhaps help people keep higher statuses longer. But yeah, I have the chase card too, and I’m not planning to go beyond 25k, so unless this promotion runs in 2024, there no benefit to chase cardholders who wish to stay at 25k status
“Excellent Service”? This person clearly works for Air Canada. I fly 60 segments a year across NA and I’ve never been treated worse than Air Canada.
Do we know if the bonus points earn on special categories spend go towards the 30,000 points goal to retain status. For example signing up for the Aero card today promote a 10x total points on travel and dining in your first 6 months* (that’s 7x bonus points on top of the 3x points you earn on dining and Air Canada purchases and 9x bonus points on top of the 1x). Please share if anyone knows of this data point. That would reduce greatly the spend requirement theoretically to $3K
It looks like once a member has Aeroplan status, the dashboard does not show how many qualified Aeroplan points you accumulated this year. Does anyone know how to find out this info?
