Aeroplan Updating Award Chart As Of June 2026: It's A Devaluation, Mostly
Air Canada Aeroplan is one of the most useful frequent flyer programs out there for redeeming points, thanks to the huge number of airline partners the program has, the reasonable award pricing, and the ability to add stopovers for 5,000 points.

On the one hand, these changes seem reasonable enough. On the other hand, whenever I check for a ticket on Aircanada, the price is always 450,000.
are you still able to find an award ticket between nyc to hk via europe on aeroplan? i haven’t found any since 2022 in business class
This is a carefully crafted devaluation aimed at all the remaining valuable redemptions in Aeroplan, with almost surgical precision. NA-Pacific is already difficult to redeem, but now its points requirements continue to go up in every band, squeezing out the last advantages of trying to gamble on a last minute BR award. Most obvious is the good value within Asia is eliminated, and a complete slaughter between Atlantic and Pacific. This shows AC uses data to pinpoint any outsized redemptions and strategically eliminated them, even though 99.9% of Aeroplan users would never be able to redeem on a last minute NH NRT-PER for 45k, or FRA-MCT-BKK in WY F. In order to balance out the bad news, they lowered the least useful awards by a few points, since intra-EU business is a joke, and very very few itineraries in Pacific region can exceed 7000 miles. The water may not be boiling, but the frog is almost cooked by now.
The only partners AC has between North America and Europe are LOT and LH Group. And once those follow United’s suite and lock the programs to their own members only - then AC will be useless, with nearly every J seat being in 450K points range.
Same about Asia - looks like Eva Air is the only partner left who still exposes J availability here and there.
Aeroplan and Qantas each got rid of availability. They used to be a sweet spot for long-haul J/F on partners. No more. Alaska is next; really concerned for their inevitable devaluation.
By the way, did you all see the news? Yikes.
Another one bites the dust.
I just want get in before someone in the comments says it's not as bad as it could be.
Devaluations of any kind are awful. It's corporations just screwing you without you having any recourse.
Most partners are blocked anyway.
Surprised I wasnt worse with the constant sales of points
I have the same experience as you and can guarantee that someone will respond with a cherry-picked great redemption to prove their point that Aeroplan is the greatest program.
Aeroplan doesn't show much business class availability anyway and first class award space is much worse so while this is mildly unpleasant I'm not sure how much it'll matter to a couple trying to fly up front on miles.
Aeroplan blocks quite a few partners, including ET which for this route is readily available via other points.
Of course you are welcome to spend 400k on crappy AC metal....
THEY ARE THE WORST BASED ON BIZ" TO/FROM EUROPE - 400K ABSURD-THEY MAKE DELTA LOOK
Making it more and more useless to use points. Nowadays it is better to find a good business call deals with cash. The only useful time is the last minute redemption where I need to go somewhere last minute. But that is usually rare.
Given most airlines charge additional fees, many redemptions are bad values on top of this devaluation
I've seen YYZ-YVR J tickets on AC pricing around 400K before major holidays.
Ive gotten average 5X point value regularly for long haul biz. It’s just too easy to get Aeroplan points through Amex transfers and the points sales that can get close to 1 cent per mile. Inflation is too much money chasing too few goods. This is why you should never stockpile points.
In addition, Aeroplan is now gone revenue based and hands out an obscene amount of points to OPM flyers, inflation is gonna get worse
TK is blocked in J.
TAP doesnt release much.
In theory there is also Air Serbia, but it hasn't worked in a while either
Ethiopian continues to be blocked by Aeroplan too.
Aeroplan is the best, and Air Canada is #1 in North America and top 5 in the world
Glad I used all of my Aeroplan points a month ago to book Swiss new A350 business class to and from Zurich
Perhaps this devaluation will lead to some partners being unblocked, as Aeroplan will now be able to justify paying the partner airline the amount they stipulate? Stranger things have happened.
The greatest program that ever lived, with 100,000+ airline partners, and a wealth of opportunity to book all 2 partner bookings Air Canada receives in a year!
If all else fails, you can book the off-season Wednesday red-eye from Toronto to Montreal for the low low price of 350,000 points for base economy seat! Hurry, do this quickly because starting June 1st, that low low price will jump up by a small amount to 450,000 points for that same garbage red-eye.
Air Canada, with "more ways to redeem!"
What a trash program that's just becoming more trash
These comments are just weird. We routinely find seats for two in J from DC to Europe on aeroplan. Currently in Sicily. Had no problem finding a redemption (wide open 4-5 days a week) to Palermo and coming back from Catania.
You folks are either making things up or don't know how to search on the aeroplan website (hint: awardtool and seats.aero do not work for Aeroplan...they miss 95 % of the availability in J).
I make 4-5 Aeroplan redemptions a year for 140K RT per person to/from Europe. I have no idea what you're talking about.
I had a regular AC redemption in J on United just a month ago. (Yes, United metal is rare. No it's not nonexistent.)
Ever since United disappeared from Aeroplan, ive seen less and less partner awards available, either due to people rushing to clean it up or the partners are pulling back. I dont know if this is Aeroplans plan to rebalance and get those redemptions back in again because of the increased points required or a money grab. Would be nice if AC had decent redemption rates instead of the variable rates they use 99% of the time.
@Parnel , are you sure there's a wholesale block on TK redemptions initiated by AC? They release very small amounts of partner awards, but I do see some availability every now and again (I don't use aeroplan though).
Some partners pulled back, but quite a few are blocked since they are availablw for booking with other Star points, especially premium (ET, EY, TK, WY, GF, CA, TG all come to mind)
Yeah most of the availability in J is about 45 days out and less...but lots of it then. These folks must be searching 6-12 months out...no wonder they don't find anything.
@Ben, unrelated to aeroplan, but have you recently been able to redeem lifemiles for any LH F seats at all? I've monitored lifemiles for the past month and I see ZERO availability even for same-day departures. There's the usual availability with aeroplan though...
Agreed. There was 1 day this week they opened LH redemptions but only for Economy. Can’t even find those seats now.
Loyalty is dead. If you can't afford to buy first or biz with cash, then enjoy what little time you have left to redeem your miles, because it'll be back to steerage you go.
It's odd/fortunate, but the specific niche of my primary use remains untouched.
US northeast (think: New York, Boston) to most of Western-Europe (think: Germany and westward) remains starting from 60k in J.
And most other uses I can think of seem to have gone up by <10%.
Horrible points reward system. This article is not even close to reality.
