If you ever have a chance to stay in the "real" Seaport area on the other side of the convention center it is a lot nicer. Once the construction is done in a few years will be amongst the nicer parts of Boston. It already has some of the most expensive office costs per square foot in the country and housing costs that rival NY and SF on a per SF basis.
Like Alofts for what they are, but many are priced surprisingly close to the classic full-service properties, sometimes higher. I've seen that Aloft Boston Seaport priced $300 in many weeks.
To be honest, I like Alofts better than W's in most of the US. Similar sized rooms, nicer staff, and less obnoxious decor.
It's cool seeing you review a hotel I've actually stayed at. I attend PAX East every year at the BCEC and as you can see from your picture, this hotel is the perfect location for that.

There's also an Element right across the street. Also has a pool. I think it's the same category, but the rooms have kitchnettes and there is free breakfast in the morning. It's pretty nice, actually. Haven't stayed in the aloft, but given that the location is identical and I've stayed in alofts enough to know what I'm getting, if the prices were close, I'd stay at the Element.
Agree with @Dave. Fort Point side has really developed recently. Seaport is still convention/business space dominated (nearly half of city taxi fares originate at the convention center or airport), but lots of new hotels and residential going in.
FYI, Seaport District is currently, and has been for 3 years, the most expensive neighborhood in Boston. It's a brand new and up and coming neighborhood.
Not the most "desirable" place in Boston? Seaport may be the most desirable in Boston. Great places to eat!
"No love loss of the Aloft brand for me" - odd phrase. Useful pictures. Too many fails - well intentioned or not.
It's misleading to say that it is the same Bliss amenities as W - the products are different (very different in fact) (even if that sounds quite snobby).
For what it's worth, that hotel caters specifically to the convention center and other event spaces that are in that area. Interesting side note, that lawn at the bottom of your skyline picture is a really cool open air party area in the summer. Food trucks, live music, and a bar!
By the way, since you can check in to your room without ever visiting the front desk, is this a way that you could gather stays/nights without actually physically staying at the hotel, if you were close to a tier threshold?
This part of Seaport is kind of dead right now but Starwood/Aloft was smart to get in early. This area will be really big in a few years.
I stayed at Aloft Boston Seaport with my husband and my two sons. We stayed there for 4 day, for spring break, we had a good time. The weather was pretty nice. The staff was friendly and the rooms dector is fun with bright colors and design.The pool was nice and the bar. We meet a friendly housekeeper name Rosealee. She is warm and friendly, she greeted us in the hallway with a smile. We had a nice conversation about Boston. We would come back again!!:)))

Are all/most Element feature kitchnettes though? That is a plus for me.
