Marriott’s top tier elite status is Ambassador, as it’s above the Titanium and Platinum tier. On paper, there are few incremental perks of Ambassador over Titanium, and the difference is often better ”soft” treatment, like higher upgrade priority, unofficially.

I had been Ambassador for years. Only needed it a couple times at a Fairfield and it was honored. The need and value will vary person to person.
I am surprised an airport hotel would honor the request. Their demand fluctuates unexpectedly with weather and airport delays. Never really saw the perk of ambassador. Based on the spending level, this clientele is staying in high budget hotels and paying for upgrades already.
I've used it a few times and it is usually approved. The biggest issues I've encountered is that the hotel doesn't want to approve it closer to the day or arrival. When they do, they usually give you a standard room (no upgrades). This is obviously an issue in terms of making alternate arrangements. I like the benefit but have never been super impressed with it. A benefit that isn't guaranteed isn't a high value benefit.
Was an Ambassador for four years (just moved down to Titanium) and only requested this benefit once at the Marriott IAD. The request was a 7pm to 7pm stay and they granted it. Our incoming flight did not get in until that evening hence our 7pm check in. The flight the next day didn't go out until 10pm - so it was really useful for this stay. If the hotel had not accommodated our times, I normally would have booked two nights stay and left early.
Never been able to use it successfully! Just recently tried to during a trip in Asia where my flight was departing at midnight and I wanted to leave the hotel around 9pm, the hotel/Ambassador wouldn’t budge. It’s not a benefit really… it’s just there in papers!r
Speaking of Ambassador level - it’s worthless and useless, I really get boring from it. This year my Ambassador contacted me once and I asked her for help when she reached out since I was on a trip and she couldn’t really help… haven’t heard back from here (this was like January 3rd or so)
Ambassador continued to be by far and away the Gold Medalist of worst benefit packages relative to the highest spend/time requirement
Yes works as a charm. And the best is if you do a 4AM checkin you can often do late checkout as well. So you kinda have 2 nights 🙂
I had three different ambassadors over the years. One was great. The other two were MIA as you've mentioned.
The most useful version of this is for early arrivals in Europe (or other places where you tend to arrive on a redeye), and in my experience that's where it's least likely to be approved. I have had some success in other cases, like extending 4pm late checkout for a few hours.
