I've written about the measures that American and United have taken to encourage social distancing on planes. While the efforts are nice, ultimately they don't offer any guarantees. Fairly, I don't think this will have a big impact, even blocking all middle seats, due to the decreased demand i think there will also be plenty of Aisle and window seats free. I even saw a report of an AZ A/C B781 flying AKL-SIN with 4 (!) pax. And they all 4 were Upgraded. I hope at least the belly was full loaded.

The takeaway from this is that they are aware of the discomfort and crowding on bus gates. They pledge to avoid them and double the buses for now. LOL, why can't they double the number of buses permanently?
I can tell you the fatigue of deplaning from a transatlantic SQ flight (3 hour delay) in the winter gloom of FRA and waiting in the rain for the buses. At least the SQ station manager had brains, he did not let the crew van leave till buses arrived for pax.

Given their, and Air France’s flight crew unions’ proclivity for striking, I’m surprised neither has elected to do just that for the wellbeing of their own members.

Lufthansa is so bad!!!1!!11!!1111!!!!

Middle-seat blocking is a status benefit for Miles & More elite members. Now with offering it to everyone for free, Lufthansa is devaluing the status further...

@Max, get over yourself. We are in a pandemic. This is not meant to be a permanent change.

So now everyone will get to experience the “luxury” of intra-European business class! Yay?

I see no rational reason for social distancing to continue permanently. Why would you even think it would?

Wonder if they’ll block pairs of Biz seats next; 2-2-2 seating is not spacious enough for distancing
