How To Refund Aeroplan Award Within 21 Days Of Departure
Yesterday I made a post about airline award ticket change fees. Rules and fees on award ticket changes and redeposits vary wildly, from being free, to costing $200, to not being possible within a certain number of days of departure at all. Air Canada's spun off loyalty program, Aeroplan, charges a reasonable 90CAD fee to…

@Lucky: do you know if you can change the name of the passenger when you re-book an award ticket?
Thanks!
Angel
@ Angel -- I believe the passenger has to stay the same, though I could be mistaken.
I was told for award type change you can't downgrade from First to Business but could do so the other way around. Is that true?
Ben, Wonder if following route is poss YYC-LAX-ICN OZ A388 (STOP) -SIN-FRA SQ A388 - BRE (STOP)
BACK CPH-VIE-YYZ-OS YYC and how many miles need for C class via AEROPLAN or is it better
via Europe to ex ICN and back to Europe stopover. I remember you did something like that recently (PEK and Addis and LOT B787)
Thanks for taking your time
Jorgen
last excited to know how you get to STO and back to US?
Lucky: can the two stopover rule be bent as far as routing like US Air, such as stopover in Asia, etc enroute to Europe?
Regarding recalculation of fuel surcharges for changes after travel has started, in my experience, the agent did recalculation and wanted to charge me extra. So I believe this trick does not work any more.
@ JW -- With Aeroplan? If you change the award type you have to redeposit the ticket either way.
@ Jorgen -- The open jaw has to be at the turnaround point, so you can't have an open jaw between BRE and CPH in this example.
@ Robert -- No, their agents are competent and strict. You can exceed the MPM by 5%, and one stopover is allowed in each direction.
@ echino -- They do recalculate taxes, but not usually fuel surcharges. Were you also charged a difference in fuel surcharges?
Hi Lucky, two segments (operated by United) of my aeroplan ticket were changed, which will possibly make my one-way trip this December impossible (i.e. too little time for going through the border at SFO). Does that give me a free change to my award ticket? If the change would be free, does it apply to date changes as well, or only same-day changes? Thanks!
@ YY -- If it's a substantial change then you should be able to redeposit or change the dates altogether.
Do you know if the trick of paying $180 by rebooking twice, to redeposit miles is still possible? Even if it was booked as a Market Fare reward as opposed to Fixed Mileage?
Thanks!
