JetBlue Blue Basic Fares: What Are The Restrictions, And Is It Worth It?

Given how low ULCC penetration is in NYC and BOS, although they do manage to get into the Florida markets, I'm not sure basic economy fares are as needed (from an airline's standpoint) as they are in other markets.

You are correct that ULCC's like Spirit, Frontier, Allegiant, Breeze, and Sun Country hardly operate at the 3 main NYC airports, unless you wanna throw-in SWF, ISP.

I like that B6 includes a full-size carry-on with Basic, like DL and AA does (and unlike United, because, they're cheap), though, all often gate-check, if full flight, since later boarding.

I find the points and status earnings with B6 to be kind of irrelevant, so, if flying Y, don't care about seat selection or boarding zones, and it's a deal, go Basic.

This article is incorrect. JetBlue doesn’t allow you to select seats for free during online check-in/within 24 hours. In fact, when I flew them on Basic Economy back in October out of JFK, their system didn’t even assign me a seat until one hour before departure, preventing me from using the T4 Capital One lounge before departure. I believe B6 is the only major airline that doesn’t assign seats until right before departure. The Capital One JFK manager mentioned to me that this is a big problem with B6 and that there are many other customers in my situation. I was forced to file a DOT complaint because B6 customer service gaslit me and claimed that they assign seats to Basic customers 24 hours before departure.

It's the most basic class of seat; therefore, B6 can call the shots.
Should Spirit fold, don't be surprised if it's watered down further!!
