I absolutely love the Editions in NY, Miami Beach, and London. Probably my favorite Marriott/Hilton/IHG brand to stay in as it's luxury without a lot of the pomp. Usually an excellent bar scene, as well.
I hope the expansions in Times Square, West Hollywood, etc. live up to the experiences I've had at the first three.
Editions aren't luxe. They're small layouts and the service is nowhere near a Ritz or 4S.
If I'm in LA, I'm at the Bel Air. That's a property that's a full two steps above any Edition, anywhere.

Always underwhelmed by Edition. Small rooms, weak upgrades, no breakfast, and the rooms look the same in every one I’ve ever stayed at.
Editions seem to be what W tried and failed at. But at least they cleaned up the concept. This is sure to be the go-to spot for Directors and Producers to score at the bar.
Given the limited elite recognition at Edition hotels, I'd say the Andaz is still a better option (assuming elite status at both chains).
