we're doing the exact same intin in about a month! Except we'll head to lake Como and spend some time in DXB as well!

Quick QQ do you usually tip the chauffeur driver? we're on a long ride from MXP to Bellagio so I'd definitely like to thank the driver 🙂

We usually tip EUR 200 as it is more than 70 kms.

Well, that´s a drink selection! Emirates is really upping the game, specially in the spirits department (JW Blue AND Royal Salute... Henessy Paradis AND Tesseron XO...) For me, this is more decadent than Singapore offering Krug and Dom... Also, the Maybachs are a really nice touch...

That is too bad about the purser. I would have gone all Richard Gere on him from Pretty Woman ... "I want some major sucking up here..."

Good eye @Ben Holz! I'm guessing they were driven in the S-Class with the trunk open parked just beyond the Maybach. The interior pictures don't look like a Maybach either. Perhaps they all park in the same livery area as other hired cars.

I had a question, which I do not think was discussed for some time. You always note about the amenity kits, pajamas, take-away gifts that you get on every one of these flights.

What do you actually do with all of these and where do you store it? Do you keep every pair of pajamas or do you simply leave this on the plane when you deplane?

IIRC there was an article years ago about how you live out of a suitcase, was wondering how it all matches up for you and what your basic strategy is.

@Lucky -- When you say the passenger was "very talkative and perpetually delightful," do you mean "perpetually delighted"? If not, in what ways was she delightful? You didn't say.

@Mark I would have thought that you tip because of exceptional service, not because it is expected or you have to.

Dont know why these arabian "luxury" airlines remind me of the Russian high class brothel I´ve never been to with all their bling and faux wood/leather :/

I love how you can see the plane taking off and landing on the outside cameras. It really makes the middle seats a whole lot better.

Google tells me the distance from Malpensa to Milan is more like 50km than 70km.
The airport website indicates a car transfer can be had for EUR 95.
Given Emirates are already paying for the car and driver, why would anyone tip EUR 200?

What size of Pyjama should someone take? Is medium real medium or more large like on Qatar Airways?

In Europe we don’t tip % like in the USA!
This is very important to understand for foreigners; tips/service are ALWAYS included in your bill at restaurants.
Hotels workers/drivers etc don’t expect a tip.
What we Italians (and Europeans do) is leave some change/spare
Ie the restaurant bill is 190€ we leave 200€
The bill is 96€ we maybe leave 5€ or some spare change
It’s not a % it’s litteraly a “rounding up change”.
Sure if it’s a 20 people table at a top restaurant (say bill is 2000€) we might leave 50€ or more
But if you where to leave 300/400€ that would look crazy!
Tipping a driver 200€ for a drive which in a taxi would be 150€ is simply out of the question.
When I use Emirates chauffeur getting back home I normally leave 5€ cash (I live in the city Center)
And the driver normally looks at me like if I was crazy doing it! (I asked and he said “not a lot of people tip”).
When I fly back to Nice in france with Emirates (we have a house there) I also tip and the chauffeur never expects it

yah I'm not tipping 200EUR! Also we're going to Bellagio so its a bit haul, I'm thinking around 20EUR which would be probably 15% had we taken a cab that distance.

Flying First Class from Dubai to Houston last week, I did not even get to meet the purser...not bothered by it anyway due to the fantastic crew

@Texasflyer: I presume you think you are being generous by tipping such an amount, but I would suggest an alternative perspective. Applying American standards to another country and completely disregarding the local culture is not just disrespectful but obnoxious. You also ruin it for everyone else. Already there are stories of taxi drivers or restaurant workers in major European tourist centers having different expectations for tourists and locals. Whenever I go to a foreign country, I do my research on local customs and then go with that. The world is not the United States.

@Texasflyer: I would also point out that in some countries, like Japan, a tip is seen as an insult. If you try to give a tip in Japan, the subtext is that they didn't do a good job and you're trying to bribe them.

Interesting to note that you were given pyjamas on this flight Lucky. Last week I flew SIN-DXB-LHR (all day flights) and was given the eye mask and a pair of slippers on each sector, but no pyjamas. Given the fact that on my outbound flights LHR-DXB-SIN, I was given pyjamas on one sector and it had a strange smell, I didn't bother to ask for a set on my return flights.

I'm curious as to what you do with them - you must have a collection, provided you retain them for re-use.

@ Dev -- Yeah, you specifically have to request them. That's intentionally the service protocol, because they don't load enough for everyone. If you ask for them, they'll have them on all daytime flights with the full dine on demand service concept (typically flights of over four hours).

@Lucky those seats in the 380 are not the new Emirates F seats, correct? I'm in the process of deciding how to fly from Munich to BKK in November. Qatar was a possibility, but they're not flying the new Q-suites from Munich. Emirates has one daily flight from Munich using a 777-300ER, which I believe has the new F suites. Do you think that's correct? If so, I'll fly the 777-300ER from MUC to DBX, and the A380 from DBX to BKK.

How much are the foods in 1st class?
