Can someone do a writeup of the best flatbed options from the East Coast to Hawaii please?
Hmm, those are some heavy hints on older in-laws creating non-refundable plans in the wrong season during work projects in an expensive place and guilting everyone into going along. All without consulting the family travel & cost/benefit expert! 🙂
Tiffany, looking forward to the trip report! Curious, though. What does the Accor tag have to do with this trip? Also, did I miss something in the linked VFTW trip report? I didn't see anything about your spa experience.
@ Steve -- Yeah, that's a good idea. It's basically Hawaiian from JFK, United from Newark and sometimes Dulles, Delta from Atlanta and sometimes JFK.
@ Jig -- 😉 Basically. My husband is an only child, and we've been together for 14 years. I just have to roll with these things.
@ Tennen -- Accor has recently purchased Fairmont, and we stayed at a Fairmont property. And I stayed at that hotel after Gary did, and my spa experience matched his.
Tiff - best options from ORD? Wife has never been to Hawaii.

That is a super inexpensive rate for that hotel - what time of year did you travel?
What is going on at terminal c at EWR?!!! TSA Precheck line out of control, only 2 precheck lines open- people milling around by escalators- agents just shrug no idea which line is which... total mess. United Club across from security half closed and full. tables in the lobby. It's only 3:45 what happens at rush hour? !

For the past 6 years I've been going PDX-OGG at least 4-5 times a year for work (very blessed). Since I'm a 1099 employee and cover some of my expenses, I can clue you in on a lot of places for cheap eats, tourist pitfalls, and other Maui do's and don'ts if you're interested.

Also Tiff thats a terrific price for 5 nights at a luxury resort in Maui! Dont feel bad.
I stayed at both the Andaz and Fairmont in August. Good call on not staying at the Andaz. As a Globalist I did get an upgrade to ocean view, but that did not compensate for the mediocre attitude of the front desk staff. They refused a 1 hour late check out saying the hotel was fully committed. Yet when I checked online I saw four different room types available. When I asked about it they just denied. When I asked to speak to manager I was told that he was in a meeting. The Fairmont was $20 more per night and we got a two room suite. The hotel proactively asked if I would like a late check out. No attitudes, just good service.
