Finding quality 1-4 category properties for free night awards has become a challenge… it’s like, huh, I guess I can use it in… Montenegro? Oof.
I almost always take the points (I had 80 nights in 2025). Not interested in the FIND experiences and I haven’t even been able to use my Globalist suite upgrades this past year…suites never seem to be available when I apply. And I avoid flying AA except occasionally at the front of the plane, so that offers no value.
I agree finding good category 1-4 properties is hard, especially in NYC and Japan - the exception is the wonderful Osaka Caption (booked with points as it was a category 1 at the time). Mostly have gifted Hyatt Place/House to my son.
There is one incredibly annoying aspect to the Free Night Awards...they expire 6 months after they are earned, with no ability to extend them. So, if you earn Globalist status in May, and you are issued a Category 1-7 award, it must be used by November. Want to use it for a Category 7 in February of next year after earning it? You can't! Other programs make them valid for 12 months (or in some cases, the end of the next year, when your new earned status expires.) Not so Hyatt. I know of no other program that expires these awards after just 6 months. It's petty, and feels stingy. I earned them, I should be able to use them!
Ben you need to look into what’s happening to DL27 that departed on Jan 3. The plane is still in Anchorage, 48 hours later.
