In November of 2011 I stayed at the Park Hyatt Dubai and had a phenomenal stay. Not only was the hotel a great value on points, but I loved how it was just minutes from Dubai, yet felt like it was in the middle of nowhere. We had a one night stopover in Dubai, so…

I've not experienced the stackable upgrade when booking via a Virtuoso agent combined with a confirmed suite upgrade.... though my N=1 at the PH Istanbul...

Lucky,

Do all hotel chains treat Virtuoso bookings as legitimate elite status accumulating stays? Will Emirates take you to any hotel for free if you have a long connection, or just the ones near the airport? Finally, what is the process for requesting the complimentary transfer and how much time should one allow at Dubai airport if flying first class?

Lucky,
Nice post. Thanks.

I assume there is a typo in the below section - next stop is London - you WERE in Dubai 🙂

"After breakfast it was time to head back to the airport for our flight to Dubai, as we had arranged our Emirates chauffeur for noon."

I've always had a trouble with suites when staying with a friend because they tend to have one king bed only. How do you manage this? And did PH Dubai have an extra bed? or maybe you went with a significant other...

Those are Le Labo toiletries. Bergamote 22 is one if their fragrances.

I think moderate sized buffets like this are the way. Sometimes too much choice can be a bad thing, this seems just about right.

I always love the inconsistencies of places like Dubai/UAE. They'll allow alcohol at restaurants, but pork? Haram! Oh well, at least non-muslims can purchase it now from select stores.

@ FlyingDoctorWu -- Keep in mind it's on a space available basis, so I'm not saying it'll always happen. Keep in mind the Park Hyatt Istanbul has just 90 rooms, so the chances of a higher category room not being available are much higher.

@ Erik -- Yes, Virtuoso bookings always still accrue points/credit. Emirates will drive you anywhere in the UAE through their Emirates chauffeur service, and not just near the airport. To request the service you can call Emirates or do it through your booking via the website. I'd leave a couple of hours at the airport as the lounge is quite nice.

@ jim -- Didn't go with a significant other, but it doesn't bother me to share a bed with someone else. Put a pillow in the middle and it's like two twin beds at the very least. Never asked for an extra bed.

Check out the "Gift of Elegance" at Sees. 4 lbs of some of my favorite chocolate (I try not to get too fancy, but this still beats drugstore chocolate).

You got one of those boxes of chocolate for $100 or two?

Either way not to expensive for quality chocolate.

@ Danny -- We got two boxes of chocolate that were smaller than the one pictured.

If you're in the UAE, be sure to take a day-trip to visit the "Fjords of the Middle East" in Oman (about 3 hrs from Dubai). From Khasab, Oman you hop on a dhow boat and see some of the most spectacular sights, snorkel, and maybe see some dolphins.

Re-reviewing this and thought the chocolate buying might be like this scene in Love, Actually, with the inestimable Rowan Atkinson.
