It’s a good year when it comes to Hyatt’s footprint in Miami. Recently, we saw the opening of the Andaz Miami Beach, which is a conversion of The Confidante Miami Beach, a Hyatt Unbound Collection property.

It's across the street from the Filmore and the Convention Center, which is a huge plus. This is a great place to stay for easy access to those places until the Grand Hyatt opens directly across the street in a couple years.

I'm not opposed to being off the beach, especially since one company has the franchise from Miami Beach to operate the beach services for ALL hotels in Miami Beach. As a result, none of the hotels let you use chairs after 4 or 5 pm even though you're paying a lot of money to stay at the beach resort and rent chairs, umbrellas, etc. I used to go to Miami Beach four or five times a year and a fair number of the people I traveled with never left the hotel pool. My issue is will the rates reflect not being on the beach. I think $225-$400 is fair. I imagine they have to be closer to $400 since $225 is somewhat cheap for Thompson, which is positioned somewhere between 4-star upscale and 5-star luxury.

The Andaz Miami Beach is now accepting reservations for later in the year if folks want a true beach hotel. Snagged a nice points booking in December.

At least half the rooms are on the sides or rear of the building. There aren't any true oceanfront rooms.

It's kind of a resort factory, but I am partial to the 1 Hotel down there. Pools are nice, rooftop restaurant and bar are cool, etc.

FNT - When I was at the 1 Hotel a couple of years ago, I had good beach service from what I assumed were 1 Hotel employees. I was able to charge stuff to my room, got beach chairs, umbrellas and towels handed to me, etc. So I didn't notice any issues in terms of what you describe. It was before 4 PM though.

Nope. Not 1 Hotel employees. They wear each hotel's livery but they aren't. Boucher Brothers has the exclusive franchise from Miami Beach.

Back when the Andaz was the Confidante, I had a room on a high floor with a great balcony and oceanfront view. Although most rooms do face the side, there are indeed some oceanfront ones.

I have a hard time calling someone 200 yards off the ocean and partially or wholly blocked from the ocean by walls, paths, and trees, an actual oceanfront room. At the neighboring Cadillac, most of their oceanfront rooms would, at an honest hotel, be called oceanview and most of their oceanview rooms, at an honest hotel, be called resort view.

Looks like it's off the hyatt website. Rumor is it won't be joining WOH
