Ben, please don't go down the path of VFTW. Take the high road. I've really enjoyed your site and articles. But, of late, you've had a few "Gary" articles. One could say "just don't read them" but, to me, just scanning through the tabloid-type headlines is a drag.
In my experience, as soon as I reached Diamond at Hilton, this was included as standard.
The paperwork I got says 100% points bonus on stays, premium WiFi, nightly toes sucking, and executive lounge access. Admittedly the paperwork was all handwritten by the manager.
Waiting for DCS to remind all of you that this is only a benefit for LIFETIME Diamond members, not you garden variety credit card Diamond plebs.
So many questions: Was it one toe or did several toes get in on the action? How does one get their toe sucked and not wake up before suction begins? Were said toe(s) clean or smelly?
Seriously, this is gross and deranged.

That isn't really the bar to set though is it. - Well I feel like you flirted with me the other day so this is kinda on you for not checking with me that in my mind that makes it fine to break into your room and sexually assault you ( and imho that is what it is. The act is inarguably sexual in nature. Not my bag but I can't see how any charge for assault could be said not to be of that category?!). Not to mention it's impossible to give consent when asleep.
I saw this first on Reddit and was stunned. I wonder how often things like this happen. I am sure there are numerous strange/bizarre stories out there. Well…I have one…When I was much younger, a flight attendant wanted to show me around an L1011 and took me in the elevator down below… that’s all I will say. LOL
I worked for an upscale hotel chain in the early nineties as a room service server. I can’t count the times that I was flirted with, exposed and made to feel creeped out by a guest.
I worked with a fellow F/A that was notorious for his "tours" of the lower galley on the L10. LOL !
I do recall Fergie, Duchess of York, was very partial to having her toes sucked as she reclined on a sunlounge.
As a bonus - you get the MOST POWERFUL benefit in all of hotel loyalty...you may have to pay to get your first four toes sucked, but they take care of the 5th one (your choice which!) for free

Wait till I report at the end of the year that I got upgraded to a suite at every property I stayed as a LT Diamond, with the photos of every suite to prove it..

The usual mindless claim is that the Hilton Honors Diamonds suite upgrade benefit is the worst. The other, I stated that as a LT Diamond I was upgraded at the all-suites Embassy Suites Chicago Magnificent Miles to a King Corner Premium Suite. The last time I checked, Chicago was still part of good ol' US of A, and suite upgrades are not a HH Diamonds benefit at ES. Suddenly it is no longer about HH Diamonds not getting suite upgrades; it is about how much more the suite upgrade cost (like, looking a gift horse in the mouth).
The following is the stupid comment that the "Village Idiot" made about an upgrade that I got only because I am a LT Diamond, and he is so proud of the comment that he's been hounding me and repeating it because I chose to ignore him before:

In addition to being stupid, the comment is totally wrong because:
1. The first night at the ES was FREE. I had an expiring FN cert (actually an expired FN cert) that Hilton allowed me use to book the first night in a standard suite that was then upgraded to a Corner Premium Suite (the largest room type in the property). Got that, the upgrade to a $300+ suite was from $0.0. Value: $300+!
2. I was in Windy City at a conference, so that room rates were about $100 more than when the joker checked the rates. My 3 subsequently revenue night cost me over $1K.

Not only that, I had free breakfast "cooked to order" every morning, the property is actually better than any comparable, what?, Hyatt Place, where I doubt you'd get an upgrade.

Jokes aside, the fact that this happened in a hotel is fixating on the unimportant. WHERE it happened isn't relevant.
When you are in your own space (own home, rental, hotel, train car, bus seat, etc.) you have the right to be secure in your person. The person who violates your rights commits the intentional tort of battery. Depending on other factors it also may fall under criminal sexual assault, up to the level of rape.
Those two right there are a prison sentence waiting to happen and it has nothing to do with the fact that it was in a hotel. The hotel merely adds a breaking and entering charge, and if there's an intent to steal something a burglarly charge as well -- at least in my home state. Your laws may vary. These felonies would add to the ones above.
"Lock your door at night" is simpleton advice and of no value. The smart key overrides the lock. Even the cute hook thingie can be opened with a coat hanger or a rubber band (see youtube for many such demonstrations). There are some solutions such as a door wedge or a chair wedge for the door handle.
Flirt with whomever you like. It's not a license for B&E or SA. Those who blame you because you were molested in your hotel room are victim blaming. The sicko is the night manager, not the guest who flirted (or did not, nobody cares and it doesn't change the offenses committed.)
For myself, if I’d been woken up by that manager suckn on anything it better involve his mouth down south, not of showed any part of him, not talk, swallowed, not seen his face ect then he just left while I urinated, that manager would be a free man, no charges. I wouldn’t even thought about pressing charges. Lol

The door stopper/ chain was not used. Had the guest used the door stopper and there was forced entry then they would have the right to defend themselves using lethal force.
I'm sorry but this article is very, very naive to say the least or just blatantly victimblaming in the worst case. How can you say this hotel manager was probably bad at reading cues?? Come on! He probably gets off on the very fact it is non consensual or he wouldn't break in.
I just stayed at a Hilton Hotel in Ft Lauderdale, south of the airport. I paid for two nights Almost $400, no toes sucking, thanks, you gave me the reason to complain and get some money back.
You have way too much opinion here Ben. You should have interviewed a hotel manager. I’m no longer one anymore due to not wanting to deal with the general public after Covid and stubborn franchise owners anymore but I’ll give some observations here based actual industry experience:
So first off with keys, the night manager should have been using an assigned master key to enter a room regardless of the reason. Master keys are either assigned to a specific individual or they’re a number that’s signed in and out during shift, depends on the ownership and sometimes key system on how this works but regardless of ownership key system, etc, the only situations where we make a key to a specific guest room is at checkin for a guest, if the guest gets locked out and they need a new key, or if there’s a billing issue that we need to lock the guest out to generate a trip to the front desk. No one should EVER be making single guest keys to enter a room as it makes tracking who it was a complete mess (but doable since we can cross reference a key make report with the door lock audit).
If a team member in my employ was accused of this, guilty or not I would probably have had to term them due to the sketchy behavior with the key cards.
You’re right in saying guests should use the electronic deadbolt as soon as they enter a room. This is not only a physical deadbolt, but it also has an electronic relay inside it that prohibits ANY key other than emergency keys from opening the door which I’ll talk about in a second. Another commenter mentioned that the older style u-bolt latches and the newer swinging L shape latches are easily opened, well yes, they are, but the average hotel employee does not know how to open them and if they do, they make A TON of noise doing so to the point where you will wake up and be able to call 911 if not prevent them from getting in the room.
Moving onto emergency keys, hotels violate their general liability insurance if they don’t protect those. I was a GM of a 100 room limited service Hilton franchise hotel with about 75% occupancy year round. I had an EKey, out front office supervisor/manager had an EKey, our engineering manager had an EKey, the fire department had ten EKey in their Knox box, and then I had a final EKey in an emergency box that involved breaking glass for the front desk in the event of a serious emergency. Those of us with assigned ones NEVER used those for gaining access to a room, we had to use our masters. The EKey were in our wallets so to speak. I once saw our maintenance manager using his to open doors on an audit report, he received a final written warning for breaking the policy as it’s so important.
The sex comment you made honestly hurt me as a former hotel worker and I think you owe the industry as a whole an apology. There are sex crazed lunatics across all industries and not just hotels. A saw another commenter mention they were sexually harassed by guests and I can honestly say in my experience I dealt with drunken males on business saying things to our female employees that crossed the line and sometimes even to the point of touching. Fifteen years of experience, I think I had maybe five instances of suspicious behavior between employees and guests in a possible relationship and at that only one that went as far as an actual relationship. Again, you owe all the hardworking hotel team members that bend over backwards to serve you an apology for implying that we are all sex crazed lunatics.
I’m guessing the toe sucking employee is no longer employed at that location, accusation aside it sounds like he had zero reason to be in the room at that time. To enter a room due to smoke there had to be a burning smell and at that multiple calls to the room first before making entry overnight. From there he made a guest room key to gain access which is never acceptable. I’ve had to make entry into unresponsive rooms for a variety of reasons in my career including one where water was pouring into the room below, I get in and find a guy who got so drunk he slammed his head falling out of the shower was unconscious. I’ve had another case where a family member called about a guest missing their flight and not being able to get a hold of them and finding the guest passed away. Use some common sense when labeling an industry the way you did.
The toe sucker is a convicted killer and has already been to prison. I'm not kidding. HR must have been desperate or did no background check.
So delusional as usual - let's count the ways:
1. Not sure why you are comparing a full-service hotel (Embassy Suites) to a limited-service one (Hyatt Place)
2. The fact that you burned a free night is irrelevant - the price differential between your BEST ROOM IN PROPERTY Premium Corner suite vs. a Base Suite is $25/night. Case closed.
3. I checked rates this week over the weekend after your post - that is the source of the data. It's not hard to find publically.
4. Free breakfast! It's of course a benefit to any garden variety Top Tier Hilton Diamond (the vast majority of whom use their brains and just get it "lifetime" for free each year w/the net-free CC).

Though this is clearly click bait it’s not quite as crazy as it sounds. Several years ago a combination of a very late flight and total Avis incompetence had me checking into a Hilton Garden Inn near Orlando around 4 AM looking forward to having to check out early to make an 8 AM meeting. The hotel computer system was down and they could not make keys. I told them to just get me into my room as I was leaving early and would not need a key. They sent me with a female security guard (I’m male). She let me in the room, came inside and would not leave, propositioning me. I had to almost physically eject her from the room. I did not wake up with her sucking my toes but it was at least extremely annoying. I advised the hotel manager in the morning and I don’t think he believed me.
Just don't read them is good advice. It's nice to have some light hearted articles once in a while
