While the 787 is a fantastic aircraft, it has had its fair share of problems in the roughly eight years it has been flying. The latest issue seems to be with the Rolls Royce engines found on certain 787 aircraft, which have caused some planes to be grounded. One airline impacted by this is Virgin…

A total disaster. Those planes are horribly worn out and old.
They should be conditioned, it is not that difficult.

I loved European routes on Air Berlin. But avoided the A330 old fleet.

otoh, The Roll Royce engines are having way too many issues lately.

Awful legroom in Y is an understatement for AB 332s. Honestly the worst longhaul Y legroom in the sky.

Avoid like the plague.

A Virgin aircraft without that wretched onboard bar? Fantastic news.

The first five rows in Economy on AB‘s A330 are XL seats that have significantly better legroom. Maybe those are assigned to passangers that have booked Premium Economy.

Well that explains it; we just booked VA SFO-MAN in business class for around $4k R/T for two of us.
When it came to seat selection, I didn't recognize the configuration.

Is this worth cancelling over? Will the experience be that much inferior?

The A330 isn't as nice agreed. But worse would be paying for Virgin Upper Class and then finding yourself on a Delta 757 or 767. At least you could still use the Virgin Clubhouse at T3, presumably.

What' so bad about the onboard bar? I'm due to fly VS in business class for the first time in June, LHR-IAD. I assume it will have that.

@Jim The issue with the onboard bar (in my experience) is that it can be popular. If you're trying to sleep, the resultant noise can be problematic. If you're a person who utilizes the bar, it's quite nice and fun.

There was a Air Berlin A330 parked at ZRH for months, now it's gone. Maybe that's one of them?

I am pretty sure I mentioned this I the previous article about Cheap upper class fares from Dublin - would have nice to have been credited.

Understand that all seats in rows 14 -19 (economy) are extra leg room with extra three inches.

Noooo! I was looking forward to the "treat" of flying VS from Man - JFK in 2 weeks. So disappointed. Must try to pick least bad seat in economy now. Glad I didn't pay for premium.
