Travis' SE Asian Adventure: Cleared For Takeoff!
As you may have read, I've been recovering from my mountaineering accident a couple months ago. I guess this was good a time as any to have a broken leg, as I didn't have any travel scheduled for the entire fall, which was unusual for us. I could focus on my recovery without feeling like…

Will u be fully weight bearing or on crutches? Sounds like a wonderful experience. Can u focus at least somewhat on the aspects of traveling with preschoolers?
Travis,
Have a great trip, if you really need PT help both my wife and I are available, just tell us where to meet you!!
Have done multi-connections in Asia when still recovering from back surgery-used "wheelchair assist" in ALL airports with great success. They will allow your family to be included as you are escorted to the front of every security and boarding line. Plus you are actually treated as a human being. Just carry a stash of nice, crisp $5 bills to reward the heroes -the assist people who wait however long it takes to get you through security, on and off planes and reconnect with your baggage on arrival.

That's basically all you need to cover.
Completely agree with Jenny. Use the wheelchair assist services when in the airport. It'll make your life so much better and transits much smoother.
Why do you travel so fast-paced? 5 countries in 30 days doesn't seem like enough time to thoroughly take in each destination.
@Brandon -- it sounds worse than it is. 2 of the countries are little more than connection points (and places we've already been.) Majority of the time is in 3 countries. Still, that may seem fast I'll have a post explaining the rationale and how it all came to be.....
Travis, make sure that you and your wife go out at night. I lived in Japan for 2 years with my family (2 young kids) and made several trips to other parts of Asia. As a very broad generalization, kids are treated very well and babysitting services are (relatively) cheap. My wife and I were able to get out and spend some quality time (which we lost once we returned to the US). Enjoy this trip!
Eating in Penang. Penang is supposedly one of the top eating cities in Asia. Also, would love to hear how your children do with eating in Asia.
Dear Travis,
You say you, "stalk your prey" (aka low cost flights). How exactly do you do that?
Thanks so much,
Karin
Karin -- Mostly I spend a lot of time readingThe Flight Deal and the Flyertalk Mileage Run forum.
John B -- I'll try to cover more in a later post, but after two nights at a Hawker Center, my 3.5 year old son now goes in and says to us "I want satay and a melon juice". He pretty much knows what he wants and how it works!
