Last January it was first announced that Qatar Airways would be buying a 9.99% stake in IAG, the parent company of British Airways and Iberia. Qatar Airways is government owned, so basically the country was buying the stake. Then a few months ago Qatar Airways raised their stake in IAG to 15%.

I had guessed that something like this would come about sooner or later, but I'm surprised that they haven't said anything about Australia. With BA losing QF to EK and QR the weakest ME3 carrier in Australia due to lacking a local partner, this agreement made intuitive sense for that purpose. Any thoughts for why that is?
If this means Oneworld Emeralds can use the QR lounge at LHR T4, then I am interested. Otherwise... Meh.
