Question for the group - I have a Singapore Airlines award ticket waitlisted for the end of October SIN-> MLE in business. When would you give up and start looking at alternative options. For reference, there are 21 seats available if I try to book a cash fare.

How did you get 21 seats being available? If you're consulting the seat map, I'm afraid that's not a very good indicator of the occupancy on a flight. I mean October is very close to peak season in the Maldives, so if you're after peace of mind, it's not a bad idea to have a few alternatives at hand.
@kata I guess @dancerina did a series of trial (incomplete) purchases for multiple tickets until reaching the 21 seat limit to determine business class availability. Ben has recommended using that approach in the past.
On the matter of waiting list, I haven't had much luck with this except if it has been approved within the first week or so after submitting the wait request. In most cases I would always have one of the following backups; a backup economy booking on another flight, muliple other waitlisted flights , I don't think SQ has a limit on waitlists as long as your account has enough points for one of them, or a confirmed ticket in business on another (probably less desirable) airline.

@onlyfirst Ah that actually makes a lot of sense (re: 21 seat limit)! But you're definitely right to say that SQ does not have a waitlist limit. And waitlisting on multiple flights also don't impact your priority in clearing any of the waitlists too.
I have a waitlist on September 16. I’m waiting until September 3rd before I look for another flight.
I also remember that somewhere on the Singapore Airlines website, if you're on a waitlisted ticket, it suggested an alternative date that could get you off the waitlist (back in 2025, KUL to LAX)
Hope it works out for you guys, but, yikes, Singapore used to have far more 'Confirmed' award availability; in the past year, it feels like everything (from US) is Waitlist-only. Reminds me of PlusPoints and SWUs... I sure don't like rolling the dice like that.
