The primary reason we were coming to Ecuador was to visit Mashpi Lodge, which is a pretty incredible-looking hotel located inside a cloud forest not far from Quito (well, not far distance wise, but with the roads, it takes quite a while).

It looks ugly. Why do they give you boots? I don't want to be wearing someone else's boots

If I’m remembering correctly due to the tropical rainforest climate the amount of maintenance the hotel requires is phenomenal.
@ brad -- You're welcome to bring your own boots. But for those of us who don't have our own, it's a useful amenity.
Just a couple of observations: With only 23 rooms, why can’t the bus just pick you up where you need to be picked up? Is there that much guest turnover everyday that set pick-up points are necessary? I’d think at these prices they could arrange pickup at pretty much any hotel in Quito? And 2.) You mentioned WiFi and speed test. Made me wonder why not just routinely include a speed test in your reviews? I would fine it informative.
Significant mismatch between the quality of the lodge and the transfers. Would really put me off.
Re: bus transfer and water- why didn’t you ask at the hotel whether it was “one-off or the norm”?
It doesn't really seem that nice to be honest; Usually I agree with your reviews, but with your Ecuador trip I have to disagree with you; I found the JW to be worn out, totally not up to its standards, and in a not so desirable location; IMHO Ecuador is one of the few countries I have no desire to go back to, I feel its over rated and has nothing you cannot find in the neighboring countries, plus, its the only country in the world where I've felt unsafe the whole time (do take into account that I live in a third world country...).
