Really? Dusseldorf came off as a really boring city to me...can see everything in <1 day.

As others have said, go visit Koeln while in DUS, or better, make a separate trip!

Koeln is being regarded as one of the, if not the biggest city for the LGBTQ community in Germany.

Also, check out Anthony Bourdain's episode for Cologne & Duesseldorf, worthwhile watching and some good inspiration IMO.
