Yet another very quick update, since time here is limited and the activities are endless. We're currently at the InterContinental Bali after arriving last night, and there are no words to describe this place. This is a case where a picture really is worth a thousand words (and since I already have hundreds of pictures,…

Pretty amazing experience thus far...I think I've wasted a lot of time with Starwood and Hilton...

OMG. I wanna be a RA.

I saw the mirror trick at the Hilton Millenium BKK last year. Hmmm, come to think of it... I arrived at Conrad BKK at 1am, so don't know if mirror check is done in the dark, but I *do* remember a thorough trunk inspection.

Can't wait to see the photos!

I stayed at the Conrad Bali two summers ago. Same mirror trick. They are quite concerned after the Bali bombings a few years ago.

How long are you staying?

Oliver, we're staying for two days (leaving tomorrow evening, the 27th).

I certainly appreciate the security, it's better to be a bit surprised by feeling like you're on a compound and protected than to have no security but feel safe because you see no threat.

Only two days? What on earth are you doing here replying to blog comments then? 😉

As a member of a family of four who has used business award tix to SE Asia, it is possible to get 4 tickets for flights like SIN-DPS. Getting to Asia with 4 business award tickets on the same flight is hard (ANA and UA seem to be the best for this), but when we looked a few months ago (for travel 300+ days out), there seemed to be multiple SIN-DPS flights per day with 2 seats, and 1 SIN-DPS flight per day with 4 business seats.

Your story of how you were whisked past security reminded me of my own experience. We didn't get any of the royal treatment and instead queued up with the other unwashed masses at the passport/buy-your-visa checkpoint. As it was clear it would take a bit of time, I left my wife in the line and went to the bathroom. In there, I was approached by a security guy in uniform who offered to get me through security in an expedited fashion for a small tip 😉 Needless to say, I didn't want to get caught in some sting operation five minutes into the country and declined with a smile.

Good point Laura, but at the same time we were taking up two award seats, so that must mean a lot of award seats on that flight.

Oliver, too funny. 😀

Oh, good point - I hadn't thought about the seats you were using!
