As U.S. airline profitability has improved significantly over the past couple of years, we've also seen the legacy airlines invest somewhat in the customer experience, even in economy. For example, while Delta has offered free snacks in economy for a while, United and American have added free snacks in economy within the past year. Ultimately…

Hmm. I actually kind of liked the Delta-branded pretzels and peanuts.

I think the reason they don't use branded snacks is control on cost and weight. Similar to the American olive reduction, taking a couple pretzels out helped.

I suspect due to fuel prices, the reduction isn't worth it. Paying in bulk and contracting custom packaging is now more costly than fuel savings.

I read an article this week that Delta is also piloting bringing back complimentary meals in economy on transcon routes http://fortune.com/2016/12/08/delta-free-meals-coach/

Not sure if you have already covered that.

I agree with Nightliner. The branded stuff looks like the vending machine crap that I never buy. On the other hand, the Delta bags have warm and fuzzy connotations of eating snacks en route to a vacation destination somewhere 🙂

I fly delta all the time now, and they really up their game. On time flights, good service generally, now better snacks. Biscoff will always be my favorite.

If only they can finish upgrading their fleet to setback tvs.

While it might seem like DL is being so wonderful in upgrading to branded pretzels vs. generic (BFD) please bear in mind that DL led the way in eliminating Y meals altogether - they were the first carrier that did this & starting charging pax for crap like Pringles.

Can we get full cans of soda in Y, or at the very least Comfort +? That's something JetBlue and Southwest(?) have been doing for years. I've even had JetBlue flights where they run the snack basket down the aisle twice!
