Cathay Pacific Nonstop Hong Kong To Colombo Flight Launching!
Cathay Pacific has just announced that they'll be upgrading their service to Colombo, Sri Lanka. Presently Cathay Pacific offers daily service to Colombo, though: -- It's not direct -- it connects in Singapore 4x per week and in Bangkok 3x per week. -- It's operated by a Boeing 777-300, featuring Cathay Pacific's regional business class…

Sri Lanka is Asia 2...not Asia 1 on American's chart. Still cheaper than India / Middle East, just 5K more than Asia 1.
Yup I believe Jamie is right. For first class service to Colombo, that has to be flown over the Pacific, right? Does CX have first class service from HKG-CMB?
@ Jamie -- Whoops, typo on my part. Got the award rate right, but fat finger mistake on the zone.
@ Joey -- Yep, have to route via the Pacific. No first class on this sector.
"It’s not direct — it connects in Singapore 4x per week and in Bangkok 3x per week"
The current HKG-CMB (610/611) flights are direct; they are just not nonstop.
This is great lucky, thank you!
I've been thinking of a Sri Lanka/Malfives trip for a while now. This makes it so much sweeter! I decided those regional Singapore Jets were too much for the eight by half hour flight without breaking it up and overnighting with Singapore. (Assuming you're coming from LA or somewhere else in North America)
Any info whether this will have an effect on the HKG-SIN route now? Example .. will they operate a different type of plane configuration on the HKG-SIN route now as well? Given the fact that it doesn't go to Colombo anymore but directly back to HKG or SIN
@ Jim -- It looks like CX710/711 goes from a regional 777-300 to a mix between a regional A330 and longhaul A340. So definitely doesn't get worse, at least.
With the thought of using Alaska miles - does Sri Lanka fall under India:
Between North America and Africa / India / Middle East - 70,000
@ jim -- Hmmm, I could be mistaken, but I think it would be considered Asia.
Would you still do BKK - CMB - BKK turns on CX's A340 in biz with the fare you used for the SIN - CMB turn?
@ Alvin -- Sure in theory, but the fare isn't around anymore, so it's a moot point mostly.
Just wanna point out that all 777-300 have been retrofitted with the new regional business class. As of today, only a few 777-200 (i think 4) still feature the old seat shown above.
@ mito99 -- Interesting, thanks for the heads up. Still not a very comfortable product, in my book.
Lucky, don't forget the $1400 EY CMB-DFW First class mistake fare that I happen to have just arrived from 😉
Can anyone explain why the non stop legs from HKG-COL seem to only be available up to April 2015?
CX611 on 2/21 now shows bkk connection.. Did they cut out the Saturday flight now?
Actually the nonstop seems to be missing between Feb 11-22.. Any idea why?
Looks like the CMB-HKG via BKK is no longer on A343, so its back again regional Business 🙁
Very bad timing for me and this on a night flight:-(
