Lovely this oasis of calm coming 2027, but I'm in the jammed packed SEA N Lounge as I write - I'm standing up looking out at 13 - that's 13 jets lined up crawling along for take off, and will do all I can to fly out of PDX in future - this airport SEATAC grief and congestion (starting with drive up to checkin) not going away. My two bits.
Hear you. PDX was my hometown airport. Dreaded connecting through SEA ever since DL became obsessed with domination of the SEA market and in their hubris created a quagmire of operations. SEA doesn't have the real estate to properly accommodate the expansion and growth in traffic. It's going to become even more of a liability than it already is. The New AS lounge in PDX is stellar. It's not 41k sf, but it's excellent.
Each of these recent updates on Alaska are genuinely exciting. New premium lounge(s), new lie-flat on transcons (737max10), all in addition to their beautiful new 787s (so long as they can keep them operating and not stuck in Rome), and the Atmos credit card refresh... it's adding up to great things. I know I've been wishing for more partner J redemptions, but maybe I need to save some points for AS-metal, soon enough. Bah!
Everyone is getting on the premium bandwagon. Even AA. So its even more exciting to see these changes at AS. Can't wait to try out the Aurora lounge at SEA.
As Alaska goes Premium, where does their core sandal with socks crowd go? Alaska could have gone for a high end Bozeman lodge feel, but they seem to have gone Boca instead. Where is the Pacific Northwest uniqueness?
This is all great except for the physical space of the Seattle airport as others have mentioned.
It’s been a minute since I’ve been in Seattle but they were boarding international flights out of the N Concourse or S concourse. Now they are building their Atmos lounge for international business travelers in the C concourse. There are no international flights from the C concourse.
Bottom line, the Seattle airport is unpleasant to fly in, out, and through. Are they unloading flights at the S concourse and then driving the planes to C or N to board for the next flight? Sounds very Seattle.
