All their profits come from credit cards.
What took them so long to start!
It's coming. Flight attendants will have a quota they need to meet. I flying infomercial.
They didn't just start. They have been pushing their boa card forever. The new thing is the new manager position.
I was on a short-hop AS flight last week and the flight attendant spent the better part of at least 3 full minutes on the pitch and the passing out of the applications to the entire cabin
No, not me Viraj, I’m well retired now thank you. Nice of you to think of me though ….. 🙂
Barclays already does this and they have one guy covering JetBlue and another covering Breeze. Those two guys jetset around the country and post their travels all over IG.
The revenues and fees from credit card partnerships are a VERY big deal.
Can't blame the airlines for chasing a profitable revenue source. I just wonder if enough people will start to wake up and realize these miles they are pitching are worthless.
Pretty soon it will be like Ryan air, schlepping lottery tickets and magazines.
First How bout they teach them how to offer a pre departure beverage in First class.
Essy, make an announcement on the flight, "Ladies and Gentlemen, I will be walking down the aisle with the Alaska Airlines Visa credit card application. Apply for the card now unless you want to die."
Alternatively, it could be "if you don't apply, you're a big idiot"
So I love Alaska but the Atmos sell begins prior to boarding with a LONG pitch and of course continues after the safety briefing and once we reach 10 thousand.....it's like " we get it already, please stop"
I just came off of an Alaska flight yesterday.
Ok OMG! I’m an avid travel hacker but the sales pitch from boarding to all through the flight from safety to mealtime to just before landing on become a member of ATMOS etc made me want to scream! Over and over on repeat and walking down the aisle with the forms. Please make them stop!
Alaska miles/Atmos points are actually pretty valuable though, and I'm speaking from experience. Got great value from using them to book AA flights in the US as well as my return flight from Japan.
So basically they will be hawking their credit card more than they already do on flights.
In fact, Max, it doesn't.
and all of the people that are convinced about the advantage AS has fail to realize the advantages that DL has including that it protects its passengers from these credit card sales pitches via the PA system.
Now we just need a "how to be a civilized human being on a flight" instructor. Currently we have the people who instead of grabbing a few items that they need prior to getting on the plane decide to grab everything in the middle of the aisle while everyone is trying to board.
In fact, Tim.
If DL protects their PA system.
Then DL attacks its passengers through their IFE system more than anyone else.
