Alaska Airlines joined the alliance as of March 2021, which was an exciting development. Even though the airline is now part of the alliance, award redemptions on all oneworld partners haven’t yet been finalized for the Mileage Plan program. Per View from the Wing, we now have an update on the timeline with which this…

Can we assume that "mixed" partner awards means more than one non-Alaska flights, and that awards consisting of a partner plus Alaska (e.g. Alaska Air to SEA, transfer Cathay flight to HKG) will still be considered a single partner award rather than mixed? I assume single-partner awards can include an AS flight but want to be sure.

@ Jeff -- It's anyone's guess, but that would be my hope/assumption.

Truth be told, the latest developments are further reaffirmation of the internal weaknesses of oneworld alliance that work against the customer experience. Whereas Star Alliance and SkyTeam both require relatively high levels of "nondiscrimination" in customer-facing availability and pricing on partners (essentially limited to own metal vs partner metal pricing and inventory), AS is allowed to build and maintain a convulted sh!tshow where no two comparable partner options ever have to price identically.

Also, I fully expect the multi-carrier awards to have utterly ridiculous pricing, as again, oneworld prefers to make its combined network strength an expensive hassle versus a competitive upside

Ugh... I've got Cathay Pacific F to New Zealand booked with AS miles planned in November. I'm doubting that will happen. I'm hoping the CX sweet spot stays around long enough for me to book for next November/December.

The only awards or flights showing up via Alaskaair.com were domestic and some international destinations through A.A. It would be nice to type in a random international destination and get the breakdown of price, Alaska Miles earned through that price or Alaska miles required if redeeming miles. Something similar to what United/Sfar Alliance has.

So Alaska previously had independent agreements for costs and inventory, now that they're getting standard oneworld availability wouldn't they ostensibly be paying a higher price like other oneworld airlines? As for the 90 day notice I ask, what about Emirates a few years ago???

Big devaluation on Quatar Airways flights from LAX to CPT. There are fewer 75K flights on AA’s award website, and on Alaska, one way is roughly 280K. However, Emirates one way via Alaska is 120K. I see more bad things coming. Stay tuned…
