As seems to be a trend lately, there are some incredible business class fares available at the moment, for travel between New York and Europe. I see roundtrip business class tickets to Amsterdam and several cities in France for under $1,250 roundtrip. If you’re looking to travel later in the year or between other city pairs, I see fares starting at ~$1,600 roundtrip. Your best bet for looking up these fares is ITA Matrix or Google Flights.

The basic terms for the super cheap ~$1,250 business class fares are as follows:

  • Valid for outbound travel between July 4 and August 22, 2016
  • 21 day advance purchase requirement
  • Minimum stay of seven days required (there are marginally higher fares with just a Sunday night minimum stay)

Without any discounts, the fares are ~$1,780 roundtrip.

Then you use the usual “tricks” to lower the ticket cost by $400 and 10%.

First you can save $400 per ticket by being an AARP member, as described in this post. Anyone can join AARP for $16 per year — there’s no age requirement.

You have to click through the AARP portal to receive the discount, and the discount will be reflected in the flights as you select them. The discount is valid on British Airways marketed flights, though you can fly on a partner like American or Iberia, which are also options on this fare.

The discounted price is reflected in your total as long as you shop through the AARP portal, so there’s nothing extra you have to do. In this case it lowers the fare to ~$1,379.

You can also save a further 10% by using promotion code CHASEBA10 at the time of booking, which is valid for those with the British Airways Visa Signature® Card.

It’s worth noting that’s only valid on flights both marketed and operated by British Airways, so if you want to take advantage of that you need to fly British Airways the whole way, rather than American and/or Iberia.

That lowers the fare to ~$1,241.

This is an incredible deal for business class to Europe. Do keep in mind that American also has a promotion offering 25,000 bonus miles for roundtrip transatlantic travel, valid for travel through July 31, 2016. I value American AAdvantage miles at ~1.5 cents each, so to me those 25,000 miles are worth $375. That’s a nice bonus on an already incredible fare.

On top of that, you can earn 1,600 bonus Business Extra points for roundtrip transatlantic travel through July 31, 2016.

If you’re interested in this fare I’d recommend booking as soon as possible, as I imagine this fare won’t last. You can always cancel within 24 hours if you want.

British Airways business class most certainly isn’t my favorite business class in the world, though it’s a heck of a deal at this price. Furthermore, keep in mind you can upgrade these fares to first class for a reasonable number of Avios, which is a great way to score first class on a cheap fare. You can also fly American or Iberia for the transatlantic flight, though you’ll just pay ~$140 more, because you won’t save the 10% from the British Airways Card.

It really is amazing how cheap business class has become, assuming you book at the right time.

Anyone planning on taking advantage of this fare to travel to Europe?

  1. Thanks

I am not a fan of BA business class layout. But excellent price

How good are the miles for BA members? Same tier ponits?

  2. one of the keys is to find routes that have award availability in F. then you can upgrade using Avios… bear in mind though that you cannot use the CARDOFFERU promo if you plan on upgrading…

  3. Perhaps mention BA in the headline or first paragraph. I read about a third through figuring it was for multiple airlines (and you used BA for illustration purposes). Sure, I figured it out eventually, but it could benefit from additional clarity, earlier.

  4. Why would anyone buy AA miles with fares like this? The bonus miles you earn are the icing on the cake.

  5. Makes me really sad that you didn’t say anything about The orlando gay bar attack as a gay man yourself. 🙁

  6. I’m going to Europe this summer with my family. I’m currently booked in Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy for my outbound and BA First for my return. Would it be worth $6k to upgrade the outbound to BA J using this deal? Primarily thinking about the lie flat beds and fast track immigration as benefits.

  7. This is not the place to talk about Orlando. Lots of other places for that. Lucky has no need to apologize.

  8. I have to fly Toronto to Lisbon in Oct, any advice in getting some well priced buss class tickets.
Wouldn’t mind a stop over in London but not essential.
