While we sometimes see great business class fares for travel originating in the Maldives, it’s exceptionally rare to see good business class fares published to the Maldives. If you’re considering a trip to one of the most beautiful places on earth, Cathay Pacific has some incredible fares at the moment.
Cathay Pacific has ~$2,570 roundtrip business class fares from Chicago to Male at the moment. There’s availability for this fare through August, and in general space is wide open. You get flat beds the entire way to the Maldives, since both their 777s and A330s feature flat bed business class.
Your best bet for searching the fare is Google Flights or ITA Matrix. You can potentially save even more when booking through Momondo, as that knocks the fare down to $2,415. However, do note that they sometimes use obscure online travel agencies, so this may complicate things in the event that you need to change a ticket.
This ticket covers a distance of ~21,500 miles, so you have quite a few programs where you could earn miles.
If you credit to American AAdvantage you’d earn 150% EQMs, 125% redeemable miles, and EQDs for 25% of the distance flown. So you’d earn:
- 32,250 elite qualifying miles
- 26,875 redeemable miles (52,675 redeemable miles if you’re an Executive Platinum member)
- 5,375 elite qualifying dollars
You could also credit to Alaska Mileage Plan, where you’d earn 125% EQMs and 225% redeemable miles. So you’d earn:
- 26,875 elite qualifying miles
- 48,375 redeemable miles (75,250 redeemable miles if you’re an MVP Gold 75K member)
If you do book one of these tickets and have access to US credit cards, make sure you maximize the points you earn. The Platinum Card® from American Express offers 5x points on airfare purchased directly with airlines, which is a great option if you’re booking directly with the airline. Meanwhile the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card offers triple points on airfare purchases, and also offers fantastic travel coverage in the event of irregular operations.
These aren’t necessarily fares I’d book as a mileage run, but if you’re wanting to vacation in the Maldives, this is a great way to get there, given how tough it can be to redeem miles.
There are some equally good fares to other areas in the region, including to Colombo:
Several airports in India also have similar fares:
Unfortunately other US gateways don’t seem to have equally good fares.
Hopefully some of you can take advantage of these top notch business class fares!
