In the interest of full disclosure, OMAAT earns a referral bonus for anyone that’s approved through some of the below links. These are the best publicly available offers that we have found for each card. For those of you not familiar with Amex Offers, it’s a program available through most Amex cards, where different cards are eligible for different savings and bonus offers. In many cases the offers can be huge, and more than offset the annual fee on a card.

To view Amex Offers, go to the bottom of the account summary page of any American Express card, where you’ll see all the offers you’re eligible for. These offers come in different forms, including discounts and even in some cases bonus points.

We somewhat frequently see Amex Offers for discounts on hotel stays. Often they’re for Hilton and Marriott, since Amex issues co-brand credit cards for those companies. However, lately we’ve seen some Amex Offers for other hotel groups, which I quite appreciate.

At the moment there’s a new targeted Amex Offer for $80 back when you spend $400+ with Fairmont or Sofitel. The offer is valid for stays through December 17, 2019. Getting a 20% return on those stays is pretty awesome.

There may also be a version out there for 8,000 bonus Membership Rewards points with the same spending requirement, though I don’t see it on any of my cards. If there is such an offer it’s a significantly better deal. That’s because I value Membership Rewards points at 1.7 cents each, so that’s the equivalent of a 34% return, by my valuation.

Do be aware of the following terms:

  • Valid for Fairmont and Sofitel stays in the US, Canada, and Mexico
  • Valid for direct reservations only, so third party bookings don’t qualify
  • Valid only for room rate and charges, and excludes honeymoon registries, Willow Stream Spa services, and online booking golf tee times purchased with Fairmont; not valid at Fairmont Store, Sofitel Boutique, or other retail outlet purchases within properties
  • You just have to spend $400+ on a single stay, so you couldn’t qualify for this bonus based on cumulative spend across several stays

Bottom line

If you have any upcoming stays with Fairmont or Sofitel in the US, Canada, or Mexico, this is an excellent deal to take advantage of.

Comments
  1. Fairmont Hotels are the best. We need a Fairmont branded Amex credit card just like the old Chase Fairmont card.

  2. I hold both Canadian issued Business Platinum and Gold Rewards cards, the AMEX offers available to those cardholders are pathetic.
Do readers of OMAAT holding AMEX cards, outside the US, receive offers like Lucky writes about for US cardholders?
When will AMEX Canada provide meaningful offers to cardholders?

  3. I haven’t been getting targeted for a lot of these AMEX offers as of late on my cards. Is there anything I can do about getting more targeted offers? My parent’s card does get targeted more frequently now but they hardly put any spend on their cards, I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

  4. We’ve enjoyed Fairmont properties but God damn their stupid third party loyalty system they sold out to is garbage.

I’ve never experienced such a bad loyalty program. Definitely does not promote loyalty, quite the opposite.

  5. Nice! I had heard bad things about the Hyatt Regency Toronto, and this actually makes a basic room at the Fairmont Royal York ~$40 *cheaper* than the lowest non-deposit rate I’d been able to snag via Hyatt. I’d also hit Ford up about the Thompson Toronto, but there’s no way I’m paying $300+/night for a Standard King, even if it *would* earn me another “Brand Explorer” checkmark toward another free Hyatt Cat 1-4 night.

  6. Yes! Want my Fairmont credit card back (with benefits)! Perhaps Accor is going to make a deal with Amex. I’m sure they’ve lost a lot of business because of cancelling that card. I haven’t stayed in a Fairmont for a year…. Meanwhile, been staying in Hiltons and Marriotts.
