United Opens 54K Square Foot Club In Houston, The Largest Airline Lounge In The Americas

United Airlines has just announced the opening of a new concourse at Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). In addition to adding gate capacity and having a modern design, it also has a cool amenity, in the form of the largest airline lounge in the Americas.

New 800-seat United Club Houston Terminal B North opens

The new Terminal B North Concourse at Houston Airport is open as of this week. The new concourse is three levels, 765,000 square feet, and has 22 mainline gates.

But perhaps what’s most exciting is that this concourse is home to a new 54,000 square foot United Club, making it the largest airline lounge in the United States, and for that matter, the largest in all of the Americas.

The new lounge has seating for 800 people, with a 1,350 square foot outdoor terrace, panoramic views of the airfield, two full service bars, two buffet stations, 11 private phone booths, and more. Here’s how the design is described:

Inspired by Houston’s distinctive spirit, the club’s design captures the feeling of traveling from the city to the sky, blending elements of the local cityscape and bayou landscape with nods to Houston’s legacy as a center of aerospace innovation and cultural diversity. The space features a curated collection of artwork from predominantly Texas-based artists, including photography by a San Antonio-based United employee.

Below you can see some pictures of the new lounge, shared by United. I have to admit, I don’t visit United Clubs often (I just don’t travel much domestically, and when I do, it’s typically on American, due to living in Miami), but United really seems to be stepping up its lounge design in recent times.

This actually looks really nice, in my opinion, a huge step up from the old United Club design concept.

United now has seven lounges at Houston Airport

This latest lounge builds on United’s existing lounge portfolio at its Texas hub. United already has four United Clubs at the airport, so this is the fifth.

On top of that, in early 2025 we saw the opening of United Club Fly, on the south side of Terminal B. This offers self-scan entry, with the option to select fresh food, snacks, or beverages, including barista coffee, to take to gates. Then there’s also the United Polaris Lounge, which is of course the most premium lounge at the airport.

Bottom line

United has just opened a new United Club at Houston Airport, in the airport’s new Terminal B North Concourse. The lounge is 54,000 square feet, making it the largest lounge in all of the Americas. It has the capacity to accommodate 800 guests, and even has a terrace. It’s pretty impressive that United now has seven lounge facilities at the airport.

What do you make of the new United Club Houston? Do you like the design as much as I do?

25 years ago, every gate in congonhas airport (sao Paulo) was a lounge, including free snacks and drinks. They should basically do that at this point.

Dang, United is really going to force me to get back below 5/24 so I can get a United card!

As someone who flies through this airport a decent amount, this will be hugely welcomed. Many of the lounges have become severely overcrowded. This should help a lot.

Since Amex nerf'd the airline incidental fee (no longer works with United Travel Bank), you could buy one-time passes using that credit, instead of having to wait for 5/24, get a new card, etc.

'Heck ya, we (lounge) there'... I do really like the mini breakfast tacos at the IAH UnitedClubs. Soft tortilla, scrambled eggs, bacon... load up on like 10 of those bad-boys before a flight... mmm, skip a few meals. Bah!

Really going for those premium biz travelers with a ~1% phonebooth capacity (even just 6% if the lounge is 1/4th full)

United's clubs still don't have showers. AA is putting them in at CLT of all places.

When are you going to call United out for being so uncompetitive?

Nice to have a big new club for sure. That said, looks pretty ugly to me, actually. I don't get the United designer's obsession with 80s beach chairs - between their new economy seats and these bubbled loungers... ugh. Random purplish-brown club chairs seems on theme for UA, the accent color blue looks out of place... I don't know, other folks seem to do these redesigns a lot better.

Will be great that Amex is massively expanding its IAH Centurion lounge though.

You don’t have to live there. Some people complain about anything and everything. It must be exhausting.

And yet, even with the largest club in the western hemisphere, United will still put out the sign saying they won't accept the passes from the Explorer card.
