Copa Airlines is a bit of a powerhouse in Latin America, connecting the region via its hub in Panama (PTY). The airline is incredibly efficient, operating an all-Boeing 737 fleet, and is known for its attractive fares, good schedule, and operational reliability.
If you ask me, the one biggest downside to the Copa passenger experience has been the carrier’s lack of inflight connectivity. That will finally be changing, and Copa sure is going from zero to hero on this front.

Copa Airlines rolling out free Starlink Wi-Fi
Up until now, Copa doesn’t have Wi-Fi on any aircraft, making it the largest airline in Latin America to not at all have committed to connectivity. Fortunately this strategy has suddenly shifted.
Copa has announced that it plans to introduce free Starlink Wi-Fi throughout its fleet. So not only will the airline finally be getting inflight connectivity, but it’ll be free and very fast.
Starlink is known for its high-speed, low-latency broadband internet, and the service is offered gate to gate. Starlink Wi-Fi allows for live streaming, productivity similar to on the ground (with high upload and download speeds), gaming, e-commerce, and more.
Starlink is becoming increasingly popular with airlines. So far we’ve seen carriers like Aer Lingus, airBaltic, Air France, Air New Zealand, British Airways, Emirates, Gulf Air, Hawaiian Airlines, Iberia, Korean Air, Lufthansa Group, Qatar Airways, SAS, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and WestJet, all announce plans to install the service. Copa is the first airline in Latin America to commit to Starlink.

So, with what timeline can we expect Copa to introduce Starlink Wi-Fi? The airline states that installation will begin later this year. Some reports suggest that by October 2026, a majority of the fleet will have Starlink Wi-Fi. I’d be surprised if that’s accurate, and I think it’s more likely that widespread installation will start around that time, and wrap up at some point in 2027.
Copa currently has a fleet of just over 100 Boeing 737s, including the 737-700, 737-800, 737 MAX 8, and 737 MAX 9. I’ve gotta say, Wi-Fi on Copa will be a game changer. The airline has a very convenient network, but lack of Wi-Fi when traveling on a very long journey between north and south is less than ideal.
Bottom line
Copa Airlines is the latest airline to commit to Starlink, and it might be one of the most exciting Starlink announcements to date. Copa currently has no inflight Wi-Fi on any planes, so to go from that to free Starlink Wi-Fi fleetwide is quite the improvement… now we’ll just have to be patient.

I will absolutely book away from one carrier if another carrier has good wifi. Just to state the obvious obvious thing that somehow the trolls can’t grasp.
I’ve become increasingly intrigued by Copa ever since I learned ConnectMiles rates aren’t awful and they don’t charge any surcharges to passengers (along with United, Air Canada, and Avianca). Anyone have any experience or thoughts with their program?

Great for Copa and well done! I flew them on a few occasions between NYC and Mexico. I truly liked their hard product (lie-flat seats on 737-MAX9, impressive legroom in Business on 737-800s), food was OK. WiFi would clearly be a welcome addition.

Good for Copa but WiFi makes no difference to me. I can see the benefit for business travelers (though it’s a double-edged sword cause you’d be compelled to work on the plane) but I don’t travel for work anymore so when I’m on a plane I want to rest and/or read and/or watch the IFE.
