Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) Will Be Renamed After Donald Trump

81

Several weeks ago, I wrote about how Florida lawmakers were working on renaming an airport after President Trump. There’s now an update, as this legislation has been signed into law, and the name change will take place in a few months.

Airport to be named after President Trump as of July 2026

In November 2025, Republican Florida State Representative Meg Weinberger introduced a proposal to rename Palm Beach International Airport to Donald J. Trump International Airport. As she explained in a statement:

“President Trump is the most consequential president of our lifetime and a resident of Palm Beach County, which makes it only fitting to honor him, like many other presidents before him, by naming our airport Donald J. Trump International.”

In February, a vote took place on this in the Florida Legislature, and it passed with a strictly partisan vote. This included an 81-30 vote in the House, and a 25-11 vote in the Senate. Now, in late March, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis just signed off on this. Technically the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also has to approve, but since Trump’s appointee runs that, I can’t imagine it’s going to be an issue.

That means the renaming can now happen, and that’s supposed to take effect as of July 1, 2026. Around $5.5 million has been allocated for implementing the renaming, including updated signage and branding.

This isn’t Weinberger’s first bill to rename something after Trump. In February 2025, Weinbeger co-sponsored bill HB 987, to rename a four mile stretch of Southern Boulevard in Palm Beach County (near Mar-a-Lago) after Trump.

We know that Trump has long wanted airports to be named after him, so I’m sure he’s very happy about this. I am curious if one airport is “enough” for him, or if he’ll maybe go for having multiple airports named after him. For example, Trump has also often said he wants Washington Dulles Airport (IAD) to be named after him.

In February, Trump had filed several applications to the US Parent and Trademark Office, covering at least three variations of names that airports could use, including the name that will be used for Palm Beach International Airport.

Currently, more than 10 commercial airports in the United States are named after former presidents, including New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK), Washington’s Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA), Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Grand Rapids’ Gerald Ford Airport (GRR), and Little Rock’s Clinton National Airport (LIT), among others.

I’m not a fan of airports being named after politicians

My opinion on this is the same as it has been about every proposal to rename an airport after a politician, whether a Democrat, Republican, or whatever (and if you don’t believe me, see my post about Las Vegas being renamed after Democrat Harry Reid).

I’m just no a fan of airports being named after politicians:

  • Why can’t we just keep airport names simple, and name them after their location, or the cities or regions they serve? There’s no need to complicate things
  • It’s one thing to name an airport after someone a vast majority of people can agree on, but to me it’s a bit different to name an airport after a politician, which is always going to be divisive
  • At some point this renaming stuff just comes down to partisan politicians ruling in favor of one politician over another, and that just seems like a rabbit hole that’s better avoided

But at this point over 10 airports in the United States have been named after presidents, so I guess there’s no reason to stop now…

Palm Beach Airport will be named after Trump

Bottom line

In February 2026, the Florida Legislature passed legislation to rename Palm Beach International Airport after Donald Trump. This has now been signed off on by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and the airport is expected to get its new name as of July 1, 2026.

This is far from the first time that an airport will be named after a president, even if it’s a practice that I find to be rather questionable.

"Rapist Felon Con Artist International Airport" has a strange ring to it, but whatever...

But my goodness it really truly must be less than 2 inches..

  2. Jonsey Guest

I'll expect my cheeks to touch some pure gold rims when I take a number 2 in that airport

  3. KingBob Guest

Unless the State of Florida owns PBI, how can they decide what the airport will be called?

  4. omarsidd Diamond

When this mess is over, either this will be rescinded or FAA should shut the place down.

Hopefully this will be rescinded at 2029-01-20 12:00:01 ET.

In related news: Rep. Brian Mast, R-Florida, introduced federal legislation March 24 — HR8054 — to rename Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) in West Palm Beach to Donald J. Trump International Airport, with DJT as the new location identifier.

So the rapist, pedophile, grifter, and insurrectionist gets a small inconsequential airport. Good for the stupid people of Florida. What a s…hole state it is in what a s…hole country this is becoming.

  8. Bob Guest

Hmm "Fat A** International Airport for Pedos" does have a ring.

Naturally, in advance of this, the Trump Organization secured the trademark for merchandise. Just follow the money; the shortest path to corruption is always the one this regime follows.

Which to me means I will now only fly into FLL. My home is half-way between the two though FLL usually less expensive, while PBI smaller and easier to navigate. But I will do whatever it takes NOT to fly in there anymore. Hope I'm not alone in feeling and acting this way.

  11. Kip Guest

And tomorrow Scott Kirby will announce a new hub at DJT as part of United Next!

I bet this liberal blogger would have no issues with an airport changing their name after Barack HUSSAIN Obama or Kamala. Yet he takes issue with a small airport named after a President that won both the electoral college and popular vote. Something that no president had ever done before.

    1. Chuck Diamond

What on earth are you talking about?

    2. acutor Guest

Obama won both the popular and electoral vote twice; Trump only accomplished that once. Hey, maybe Obama deserves TWO airports!

Get off the internet Chinese bot. No human is that stupid..... Or maybe....

    4. TimUK Member

The blogger literally addresses this in his article.
Essentially naming after any individual overcomplicates it.

  13. phil Guest

Since Trump likes things named after him. How about all the men's washrooms in the USA be renamed, Trump Dump.

  14. This comes to mind Guest

They should change thecairport code to PBI: petty, belligerent idiot.

  15. JohnB Guest

The hope this means that some other airport that I am more likely to use is not going to be named after Trump.

Or they could go on a campaign naming as many airports as possible after him making it seem like some sort of hotel chain.

    1. This comes to mind Guest

I can see the campaign now. The DJT airport at Washington National, the DJT airport in Orlando, the DJT airport of Pheonix, the DJT airport Chicago North, the DJT airpirt Chicago South. Take off at one DJT airport and arrive at another. Talk about a flight to nowhere.

We must honor our leader. We are respected around the world because of our leader.

Aviation has never been safer because of our leader. Airports have never been more well managed because of our leader. Like our leader, Palm Beach is synonymous with class, grace, and sophistication.

Oh leader, we thank you for all you do, and may your name bestow this airport forever. Amen.

Since he's a CONVICTED RAPIST - perhaps he should open a Rape Crisis Center in his name. Oh wait, that would imply that Trump is a good human being. Trump is NOT a good human being.

    1. David Guest

That is a lie. He has never been convicted of rape. Get your facts straight

    2. Rich Guest

Right. It was a civil case. JS should have called him an adjudicated rapist.

    3. Mark F Guest

Actually, the jury did not find him liable for rape, and it cost ABC $16 million for saying otherwise.

    4. Dusty Guest

      @Mark F
The legal definition in NY for rape is far and above the federal definition and the common state-level statute definition. In most other states, what he was found to have done (forcibly penetrating a woman's vagina with his fingers) is considered rape. The ABC settlement in the face of the rapist controlling the federal regulators doesn't change that.

Penn State had erected a statue of its football coach Joe Paterno while he was still alive. At a point in time, it was revealed that Paterno knew that one of his subordinate coaches had been molesting children for years . . . in the campus football facilities. Ultimately, Penn State removed Paterno's statue. In the present case, when told of Trump's raping of 13 year old girls, one Republic Party official said . . . on camera . . . "Well, a man has his needs."

Another reason not to set foot in Florida. (or the United States for that matter, where a pedophile enabler, racist, and grifter, among the world's worst people, is easily and happily placed on a public facility's name). How disgusting. Person, state, and country.

If it makes you feel better. But the reality is no one cares. You won't be missed.

    2. MichaelB Guest

And, it is exactly your attitude that caused me to flee that state. Your “don’t let the door hit you on the way out” approach to dissenters is rampant in Florida, exactly the opposite of tolerance, and good reason to seek out saner climes. Next up is Florida’s idea to get rid of property taxes for homesteaded residents. The insanity in that state continues.

President Trump absolutely deserved an airport named after him - his strong leadership, hard work at his age and stand for freedom to the world against dictators and communist regimes. I think that US, for now does not have any president that it should be really ashamed of, but Trump name will be quickly wiped out once he is gone. This airport will not hold his name for long.

Will they keep the PBI airport code or change it to DJT or something like that?

    1. 9volt Diamond

As of now, the PBI airport code will remain unchanged. Many airports that have been renamed to presidents have retained their previous IATA code. IAD, IAH, LIT, etc.

    2. TimUK Member

They've mentioned it will be changed to DJT, but wonder if this creates any formal issue with La Compagnie's ICAO code (DJT, linked to Dreamjet).
Then again, checked PDT as possible alternative which applies to both Pendelton Eastern Oregon and Piedmont.

The Philippines is a great example of airports left and right being named after politicians.

Not South Korea. No single airport there is named after a politician.

    2. Mike O. Guest

    3. S_LEE Diamond

Understood. It's both good and bad that this blog doesn't let you edit your comment. I make a lot of typos, too.
I'd like the airports to be named just by the geographical location which is straightforward and non-contraversial.

    4. Jesse13927 Diamond

What on earth are you on about? China and South Korea do not name their airports after people, period. Japan has exactly one airport named after a real person, but it's just for tourism PR and not the airport's official name.

  41. Steven E Guest

There’s going to be a lot of money spent with all of this being removed from our history when it’s out of office
