I’ve referenced this video several times in passing (even in a post about the best airline ads), but I’d like to dedicate a post to this, for anyone who hasn’t seen it…
In this post:
“The people behind SWISS” video from 2016
SWISS has an incredible brand video that was released almost a decade ago, in 2016. I don’t know how many dozens of times I’ve seen it over the years, but I find it to be utterly mesmerizing, between the visuals and the music.
Here’s how SWISS describes the video:
Over 100 employees from more than 30 divisions are joined together by one story. “The people behind SWISS” conveys the diversity of our employees and their wide range of responsibilities. They do their work with unparalleled passion and commitment for SWISS customers. Day after day. The movie was shot over a four-week period in Zurich, Basel and Geneva. A 5 minute movie was compiled from over 20 hours of footage, giving viewers unique insights into a fascinating company and its people.
If you have five minutes and haven’t watched this video, you have to see it, especially if you’re an aviation geek. And even if you’re not an aviation geek, it might make you appreciate the airline industry slightly more. Enjoy!
While not quite to the same level as the above video, if you’re digging that and have the time, SWISS also has a great video about its flight attendants…
…and also about its pilots.
Why I love SWISS’ brand video so much
Obviously I like the airline industry more than the average person. My fascination comes down to two main points. First, I find flying to be a miracle, especially when you consider how safely it’s done nowadays. Second, the airline industry has an impossible level of complexity. It’s among the most complicated businesses you’ll find anywhere, in terms of the logistics of just keeping it running, and that says nothing of turning a profit.
This video is a visually stunning reminder of how complex the airline industry is, and just how much goes into making each flight run smoothly. It’s so easy to lose sight of that, to take smooth travel for granted, and to be annoyed by minor inconveniences when flying. But this video really is a good reminder of what an incredible industry this is.
Bottom line
SWISS’ amazing brand video from nearly a decade ago is something I continue to enjoy watching every once in a while, as it’s one of the best airline brand videos I’ve ever seen that sums up the complexity and passion of the industry. If you haven’t yet seen it, be sure to give it a watch!
Anyone else love this SWISS brand video as much as I do?
Great video - thanks for sharing. I love it too.
By the way - it's Swiss's, when you're making something possessive, which you have done here. Not Swiss'.
Depends. There’s no hard and fast rule in British English, but most style guides would advise not adding another “s” if that meant the word then had 3 of them at the end. Dunno if American English is different.
