Redeem Alaska Mileage Plan Miles On Oman Air

Oman Air is expected to join the oneworld alliance before the end of 2024. Ahead of that, Alaska Mileage Plan has rolled out award redemptions on the Muscat-based carrier, which I’d consider to be an exciting new opportunity.

Alaska Mileage Plan launches Oman Air partnership

Effective immediately, it’s possible to redeem Alaska Mileage Plan miles for travel on Oman Air. The awards are bookable directly through Alaska’s website and mobile app, and availability is generally quite good.

What’s award pricing like on Oman Air? It follows the standard Mileage Plan award pricing system, which is both zone and distance based. There are two award charts that are most relevant, and also keep in mind that you’re allowed a stopover on Mileage Plan awards.

Below is the Mileage Plan award chart for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region.

Then below is the Mileage Plan award chart for the Asia region (which includes Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, the South Pacific, Japan, and Korea).

I just want to highlight a couple of things about business class award pricing here.

A one-way business class award covering a distance of up to 1,500 miles would cost 15,000 miles, and that covers many routings within the Middle East, and would even allow a stopover in Muscat.

Meanwhile traveling one-way from the Middle East to either Europe or Southeast Asia would cost you somewhere around 45,000-60,000 miles, which could be quite a good deal. Or if you want to travel from Europe to Southeast Asia via Muscat, you’d pay 75,000 miles in most markets, and you’d still be entitled to a stopover.

This is a valuable award redemption opportunity

Admittedly Oman Air isn’t particularly useful for those in the United States looking for a straightforward routing, given that the airline doesn’t fly to North America. However, for those looking to travel between or within other regions, this could prove super valuable. Oman Air flies as far west as London, and as far east as Manila.

Also keep in mind that Alaska Mileage Plan often sells miles at an attractive cost, so this is a way to score a deal on an Oman Air business class ticket. There are a couple of things that make this particularly exciting:

• Oman Air offers an excellent 787 business class product, with comfortable Apex Suites, and an impressive soft product
• Muscat is city that’s interesting to visit for a couple of days, and Oman as a country has a lot to offer beyond the capital city, so it’s nice to be able to have a stopover there

With Alaska having rolled out its Oman Air partnership, hopefully this means that Oman Air’s oneworld integration is imminent. For many types of redemptions on Oman Air, Mileage Plan is now the most attractive program. Here’s to hoping other oneworld airlines add Oman Air as a partner soon as well.

Oman Air is expected to join the oneworld alliance shortly, but ahead of that, we’ve seen Alaska Mileage Plan add the airline as a redemption partner. It’s now use Mileage Plan miles on Oman Air, and this is something that could represent a good deal.

Oman Air has good award availability, an impressive 787 product, and Oman is one of the nicer countries in the Middle East. I’m thrilled to see how the oneworld alliance is growing, and we should see Fiji Airways join soon as well.
