Brunfels Hotel Mainz, New Hyatt Unbound Collection Property

Brunfels Hotel Mainz, New Hyatt Unbound Collection Property

5

A Hyatt property that I’ve been keeping an eye on for quite some time has just opened. This is probably more interesting to me than the average person, but I’ll cover it anyway…

Hyatt Unbound Collection comes to Mainz, Germany

As I often explain, I like to keep tabs on the German hotel market. My whole family is from Germany, and most of my relatives still live there, so I like to visit whenever I can. Fortunately Hyatt options in the Frankfurt area are continuing to improve — in early 2025, we’ll see the opening of Kennedy 89 Hotel Frankfurt, a Hyatt Unbound Collection property.

That’s not the only new hotel opening in the area that’s part of Hyatt Unbound Collection, though. Brunfels Hotel Mainz has opened as of August 29, 2024, and is also part of Hyatt Unbound Collection.

For those not familiar with Mainz, this is a pretty charming city not far from Frankfurt, and it’s also just a quick train ride away from Frankfurt Airport (FRA). So if you just have a night at Frankfurt Airport, this is a nice alternative to going into Frankfurt. The hotel is located in the heart of the Old Town, on Schillerplatz.

Mainz, Germany

Brunfels Hotel Mainz actually represents the conversion of an existing hotel. This is the former 127-room, five-story Hilton Mainz City, which closed in early 2023, and has undergone an extensive renovation (it was one of two Hiltons in Mainz, so perhaps that partly explains the rebranding). It has reopened as a much more charming property, from the looks of it.

Rooms are on the compact side, unsurprisingly. Base rooms are 26 square meters (280 square feet), while junior suites are 33 square meters (355 square feet).

The hotel has Brunfels Restaurant, an all-day dining restaurant, plus Brunfels Bar, featuring a beautiful courtyard.

For those wondering about the property’s name, it’s named after botanist Otto Brunfels. That’s also why the property features artwork inspired by nature, with botany-infused touches woven throughout the lighting, decor, furnishings, and more. The color palette combines earthy greens, beige, and brown, to align with the natural style of the hotel.

For those looking for a bit more generic of a Hyatt property, there’s also the Hyatt Regency Mainz, which is perfectly fine, but I think this hotel looks a bit cuter.

Brunfels Hotel Mainz rates & points availability

What are rates like at Brunfels Hotel Mainz, if paying cash or redeeming points?

For those redeeming points, this is a Category 3 World of Hyatt property, meaning a free night redemption in a standard room costs 9,000-15,000 points per night. Meanwhile a free night redemption in a standard suite costs 17,000-23,000 points per night.

As far as cash rates go, they vary significantly based on the day of week and time of year, and seem to start in the range of €150-250 per night.

Bottom line

A new Hyatt Unbound Collection property has opened in Germany, in the form of Brunfels Hotel Mainz. This is the former Hilton Mainz City, which has undergone a significant renovation. The hotel looks pretty, and I hope to check this out on one of my upcoming trips through Frankfurt.

Anyone else plan to check out Brunfels Hotel Mainz?

I'd love for you to stay there and contrast this with the Hyatt Regency on the river. I think the Hyatt Regency is lovely and the Brunfels is better located so it sounds like a bit of a toss up.

    So it’s a remodeled Hilton?

As a proud Mainz resident who lives about 0.5 miles away, I am glad to have this option for when friends/family come to visit. Its in a really nice area of Mainz, right by Schillerplatz with many shops and food, and about 10-15 min from the Rhine.
