American Airlines has just announced plans to introduce new amenity kits and bedding as of Memorial Day Weekend, which the airline describes as contributing to a “reimagined onboard experience.” I’m not sure what exactly to make of these changes, so let’s go over the details.

New American Airlines amenity kits
American will be rolling out new amenity kits in first class, business class, and premium economy. The kits will include a dental kit, eye mask, and earplugs, in addition to a rotating selection of skincare products and offerings.
What I find interesting here is how little consistency there will be. American will introduce one primary “standard” amenity kit in each cabin that will be available for most of the year. However, the airline will be introducing limited edition kits over time.
American states it will cycle brands and products within the kits for customers, “creating a unique customer experience several times over, based directly on customer feedback.” American collaborated with beauty retailer Thirteen Lune to curate the skincare offerings.
In addition to rotating products within the kits, American will also introduce limited edition specialty kits. As American describes it, “through the designs of these specialty kits, American will recognize specific milestones and initiatives that reflect the values and backgrounds of the airline’s customers and team members” (I’m not sure I understand what that means?).
When these kits launch around Memorial Day Weekend, we’ll see the introduction of a limited edition kit from Thirteen Lune, in order to introduce passengers to the new kit line, and to give them the opportunity to start collecting the kits. Then after a few weeks, we’ll see the standard amenity kit offered throughout the summer.
Below is a rundown of what you can expect from the contents of American’s amenity kits, by cabin.
I’m not sure what exactly to make of these new amenity kits. I guess whether you’ll like this new collection depends on whether you value consistency or variety. Personally I’d rather know exactly what to expect in terms of the kit and the products in the kit. It sounds like with American, you won’t really know what you’re getting in advance, both in terms of the kit as such, as well as the contents.
I can appreciate how some people may like to collect different kits. However, the constant change in products within the kits sounds to me like a cost saving measure rather than a feature. American can probably get a better deal “showcasing” different brands for limited periods.
New American Airlines bedding
American is introducing new bedding, which the airline claims is based on customer feedback. Up until now, American has had a partnership with Casper for its premium cabin bedding. Now the airline is working with John Horsfall to develop bedding made from recycled materials from the Re-Thread collection.
Nearly all the pillows, duvets, and blankets, are created with recycled fibers. Furthermore, to reduce single-use plastic waste, premium cabin customers will now receive their bedding in reusable zipper product bags, also made from recycled fibers, which will save 25 tons of plastic waste per year.
One of the unique improvements is that in first and business class, we’ll see the introduction of a dual-sided pillow with cool touch fabric on one side, and traditional fabric on the other side, which sounds kind of cool.
In long haul Flagship First and Flagship Suite Preferred, you can expect a Nest Bedding mattress pad, Nest Bedding slippers, a duvet, a cool touch dual-sided pillow, a throw blanket, a Chenille lumbar pillow with memory foam, Nest Bedding pajamas, and Bang & Olufsen noise canceling headphones.
In transcon Flagship First, you can expect a duvet, a cool touch dual-sided pillow, a crepe weave blanket, Nest Bedding slippers, and Bang & Olufsen noise canceling headphones.
In long haul Flagship Business, you can expect a duvet, a cool touch dual-sided pillow, Nest Bedding branded slippers, and Bang & Olufsen noise canceling headphones. It’s nice to see American introducing slippers on all long haul flights, as currently they’re only available on ultra long haul flights.
In transcon Flagship Business, you can expect a duvet, a cool touch dual-sided pillow, and Bang & Olufsen noise canceling headphones.
In premium economy, you can expect a crepe weave blanket, an Ostrichpillow lumbar pillow, and noise-canceling headphones,
In economy, you can expect a fleece blanket and pillow with pillowcase.
I suppose we’ll have to reserve judgment until we try the new bedding. I like the idea of a pillow with a cool touch fabric on one side, and traditional fabric on the other side. I also like that American is introducing slippers on all long haul flights in business class, since that’s useful for going to the lavatory without having to put on your shoes.
Bottom line
American is overhauling its amenities, including the introduction of new amenity kits and new bedding.
On the amenity kit front, we’ll see the introduction of a rotating selection of amenity kits, plus a rotating selection of skincare products. When it comes to bedding, we’ll see American drop Casper and instead partner with John Horsfall. The two biggest updates are that we’ll see a cool touch fabric on one side, plus slippers on all long haul business class flights.

The whole "celebrating milestones" aspect of the new amenity kits actually excites me! What if they had special ones for new routes? AA anniversaries? New plane types/etc? Or even better yet.....to recognize members who qualify/requalify for Exec Plat or CK? Million Miler? Lifetime Platinum? I always am jealous how United and Delta seem to celebrate their members milestones while AA barely notices me as an EP.
So on a narrowbody plane the Flagship Business kit is better than the Flagship First kit??

Love how they advertise the noise canceling headphones that they undoubtedly will ruthlessly and rudely collect with an hour remaining in the flight. Also what is a foldable wheat straw?? More garbage from a garbage airline.
With the headphones, they just need to let people know it wouldn't work outside an airplane, don't steal them.
Then get influencers to do a TikTok showing they don't work and stealing lands them in jail.

If you have too many amenity kits/are complaining about their existence, idk, maybe just don't take one? Doesn't seem too difficult to just leave it at the seat unwrapped/hand it back to an FA.

SSA running out of money is a myth. They won't ever run out. But you will be getting less without realizing it. We can go on this topic so far but let's save it for another day.
Just pointing out that don't blame the boomers too much. They're also victim to an effective way to control the middle class. There is no such thing as retirement, it's just another tool against us.
If you're so concerned about retirement, maybe instead of spending hard earned money on achieving EP status on American and invest/save for retirement fund? Or just yolo and not worry about retirement, who knows what the future brings, a heart attack or some freak accident is all it takes to avoid even getting old.
I usually use one kit and donate the "return flight" kit to the Salvation Army or a local shelter. They love getting them, verses lose toiletry items. So consider donating them verses just keeping them.
I have toooooo many amenity kits in my house. I usually give them away to everyone afterwards. But still too many.
Like if my family travels in business on a trip, that’s 6 amenity kits (3 each way). And worse if we have more than one segment of long haul. That’s 12! I usually have a carry on with half of the space dedicated to amenity kits!
Literally who cares? So you travel alot in Premium Cabins? Wow. Good for you. The next generation wants to experience the fine things too. We want Amenity Kits and other bells and whistles. Go fly FinnAir where it's on demand and stop posting brag comments on blogs. "OH MY WHOLE CARRYOM IS FULL OF BUSINESS CLASS KITS, WHOA IS MY FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS".

The AA eye masks are a complete joke, and slapping their greyhound logo on it does nothing to address the two critical failures.
However, what really bothers me is the greenwashing corporate press release-speak. Recycled bedding means it's made from PET (aka plastic), which is not necessarily bad, but it's definitely a downgrade from all cotton (and less breathable, which is bad if you run hot on airplanes).

In my experience, the vast majority of business/first class passengers are regular passengers, taking a dozen or more premium class trips a year. I have noticed that ,any of them (I count myself among them) use the toothbrush,but that’s about it. Many of the kits remain on the plane or at their hotel room before heading back.

About the collection value - I guess that’s personal taste. I find very little use to kits that small. Really the only ones I am using are a very old ( but ideall size) BA one and a similarly brilliant qantas one from the early 2000.

I pack a few things in my personal item and skip the kits. They are crap-quality as reusable pouches anyway, though I still use shoe bags that held amenities from BA a decade ago or even DL's BusinessElite 25 years ago.
(except for Iberia's eye mask. Honestly, the best I've ever used. I use them on all flights, and hoard them for a bleak future when they're changed for something worse.)
I have a box of probably 75-100 of them sitting in one of our hall closets. That's from pre-pandemic. I keep meaning to go through them and chuck out all the 5-year-old+ lotions and toothpastes. Maybe then I'll donate the remnants to a homeless shelter or something.
Thankfully when I started traveling again, I convinced myself to not even open them at my seat. Definitely don't need a thing from them that I haven't...

The only kit I've truly relished is EK F's. Those faux-leather pouches are really durable, great for toiletries and storing cables or other small items. And the disposable razors in the EK F kit are fantastic.
