Sanya Hello Kitty Hotel opening in 2025
It has been announced that Hyatt and Hong Kong-based Keystone Group are partnering to open Sanya Hello Kitty Hotel. The hotel is expected to open in 2025, and will belong to Hyatt’s JdV collection, which consists of independent upper-midscale hotels. This property is expected to be part of the 52-acre Sanya Hello Kitty Resort, which will be the first Hello Kitty theme park in the Hainan Province.
The hotel is expected to have 221 rooms and villas, with Hello Kitty and other Sanrio characters prominently featured. The hotel will boast three restaurants and bars, a themed ballroom, a swimming pool, and a spa and fitness center.
Here’s how Stephen Ho, Hyatt’s President of Growth and Operations in Asia Pacific, describes this development:
“We are delighted to be working with Keyestone Group and are grateful to them for entrusting Hyatt with the first Hello Kitty-themed hotel in this fast-growing market and expand our brand portfolio in China. We look forward to bringing to life well-loved Sanrio characters in this exciting new project, which will retain a unique identity while providing the JdV by Hyatt brand’s signature guest experience that is inclusive, free-spirited and distinguished by heartfelt and joy-driven service.”
This looks really cool, but…
I’m a sucker for any themed experience. I don’t really care what it is, I just love when a theme is picked, and they go all the way with it. So this concept is right up my alley.
Taiwan-based EVA Air has historically offered Hello Kitty service on select jets (it’s suspended at the moment), and these flights are just so fun. From the check-in, to the plane’s livery, to the amenities, to the toilet paper, everything is Hello Kitty themed. What’s not to love?!
While I’m sure I’d enjoy this experience in theory, there’s a very real possibility that I won’t be visiting mainland China in the next decade (I’m not convinced China will fully reopen borders in the coming years). If only this hotel could be opened a bit closer to home…
Bottom line
The Sanya Hello Kitty Hotel will be opening in China in 2025, as part of a larger 52-acre Hello Kitty theme park. The property will be managed by Hyatt as part of the JdV collection. I’m sure this would be an incredibly entertaining place, though with China’s current policies, I’m not sure this is an experience many of us will have.

There has been many important developments and indications by key people to the possibility of the restrictions becoming more relaxed soon. Further, as this this the case I do think you should consider featuring blogs about hotels and airlines in China with people based in China. Many Chinese and expats in China would follow your blog for related information and there are many local airlines you never talked about. It could be interesting.
Regarding the content, actually I think it depends on how "overboard" the theme is. Disney Hotel or Toy Story Hotel is not very overboard because some things you can see with the shapes and colors, but EVA Air with Hello Kitty, that's "overboard" with everything branded with it. Furthermore, your article lack many missing details, for example, you do not say where in Hainan it will be and when some of the parts of the project will open.
Damn you mainlanders have become sooo overly sensitive.

You are doing nothing to improve the view of an outsider to want to visit China.
I'd say "Duc de Paris" does put a dent for @Lucky to experience China.
His concern is the travel restrictions. You say it will be relaxed. Most travelers don't care about relaxed but will wait until it becomes open and stays open....

If only the reports from China didn’t say they were locking down even more due to their zero COVID-19 policy, after they covered up COVID-19 in December 2019 and early January 2020 and the cover up helped spread it across the world.

What are you talking about? He did not get into politics. He simply speculated that China's current COVID rules would not be eased any time soon by as much as 2025, which in my opinion is pessimistic and I disagree. However, he did not either criticize or defend the rules.

Personally, I'm much more interested in the Warner Brothers Curio/Hilton hotel in Abu Dhabi. Too bad they don't have one in the States, or I'd visit it much sooner. Would be even better if WB partnered with Hyatt on a State-side one, but oh well.
Will be interesting to see how much business the Hello Kitty hotel draws.

It's the intellect of the 9 year old that forces parents to spend absurd amount of money on things such as theme parks and toys.
Now I believe one thing, if we let 9 year old kids vote, we probably get people who are better than Biden or Trump.
I do have a daughter, now 13. I take her to exotic locations around the world, this since she was small. When budget or time has been a concern I have opted for trips to Idaho or Montana (as an example) and camping, skiing, or multi-day river trips. See, not so hard.
Those are real experiences and in the end less money than feeding our kids with this garbage. Especially when a world of...

I don't think we have to be either/or when it comes to vacation destinations. It can be both/and. Has my daughter gotten to go on vacations to places like London and Paris, as well as domestic destinations ranging from Alaska to New Mexico, and including some national parks like Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon? Yes.
Has she also been to a Star Trek convention in Las Vegas to indulge in her favorite pop culture fandom with people from around the world, many of them dressed in Star Trek costumes? Yes! (She is a Klingon at these events.)
I don't think participating in such an event downgrades her intellect. I think all kinds of travel can stimulate the imagination! She's now a sophomore in college. This summer, she hopes to take a deeper dive and study abroad at a summer Arabic intensive in Amman, Jordan. I'm proud of her.
I hope everyone will pursue their joy and get the opportunity to visit at least some of the destinations they want to visit in 2022...safely, of course!
