Points Posting From Lucrative “Home With IHG” Promo

A couple of weeks ago IHG launched an awesome promo (details below), where you could earn 5,000 bonus IHG Rewards Club points for posting a picture on Instagram or Twitter.

The bonus points from this promotion are now posting, which is pretty awesome. There was initially some confusion of whether you had to actually post a picture of yourself, or if it could just be of home or an IHG hotel. I posted a picture of a hotel room, and that did the trick, as my points posted.

If you haven’t yet taken advantage of this promotion, it seems to still be alive. This is an extremely easy opportunity to pick up 5,000 bonus points, which I value at roughly $25.

This is both annoying and worth it (in my opinion). Essentially you can earn 5,000 bonus IHG Rewards Club points (which I value at $25), though the catch is that you have to post a cheesy picture online.

To take advantage of this offer you need to:

  • Share a picture on Twitter or Instagram of you “at home or at an IHG hotel”
  • Use the hashtags #HomeWithIHG, #RewardsOffer, and #ad, and the handle @ihgrewardsclub
  • Follow @ihgrewardsclub on Twitter/Instagram for at least 30 days, and have a non-private account
  • Go to this website to claim your points

Just to make sure I’m being thorough, here are the key terms:

To participate in the Offer, a participant may log in to his/her Twitter® or Instagram® account and post a Tweet/Instagram post that includes a photo of himself/herself at home or at an IHG hotel with the hashtags “#HomeWithIHG”, “#RewardsOffer”, and “#ad” and the handle “@ihgrewardsclub” (“Submission”). NOTE: A participant must follow @ihgrewardsclub and have a non-private Twitter/Instagram account to participate and maintain such non-private account for at least thirty (30) days after the Offer Period ends to be eligible.

This offer is limited to the first 10,000 people who take advantage of the offer, and is only open to residents of Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom, and 50 U.S./DC who are 18 or older.

Like I said, I find this to be annoying. If they were offering 500 points for this I’d say it’s not worth it. But 5,000 points is pretty significant. So as much as I find this annoying, I do plan on taking advantage of the offer.

Do you plan on taking advantage of this IHG offer?

(Tip of the hat to JT Genter)

  1. All I get is error messages when selecting twitter and instagram. I reached out to IHG and am waiting for an answer.

    {“error_type”: “OAuthException”, “code”: 400, “error_message”: “Redirect URI does not match registered redirect URI”}

  2. Doesn’t work. Here is what I get when I try to log in:

PLEASE CORRECT THE HIGHLIGHTED FIELD(S) TO CONTINUE. We couldn’t find a valid post from that account. If you already submitted a post with #HomeWithIHG #RewardsOffer #ad and @IHGRewardsClub, try again in 15 minutes.

  3. Try changing the language in the offer page and then login. I just switched to Spanish and was able to signup for the offer.

  4. I got that message at first, but then I literally followed the directions, waited 15 minutes and checked again, and it was fine.

  5. Worked the first time for me. Took 5 minutes. Got a confirmation number too after logging into Twitter via the link. Easy 5k!

  6. @Billiken

Send IHG a letter by regular mail with your picture printed out and write the required hashtags on a piece of white paper with the picture. You should get the 5000 points in no time.

But seriously, obviously you need an Instagram or twitter account for this promo so just open one and then do it – they are both free.

  7. OK, it’s a gimmick to get us to fill our friends’ feeds with ads for IHG. That doesn’t appeal to me, and I’ll pass on this one.

  8. I nearly never use Twitter but it was worth my time (including resetting the forgotten password) for 5000 points. At times there are decent 5000 point hotels during the Point Breaks promotion. Not as good as before but I have still been able to take advantage such as the Holiday Inn in Almaty, this past July. For these stays 5000 points are worth much more than $25.

  9. I find the permissions from the website overly aggressively and unnecessary.
