Last week we saw a fare war which offered ~$2000 fares between the West coast and Europe. The best part was that British Airways and codeshare flights receive a $400 discount when booking through AARP, which brought the fares down to ~$1600 for the roundtrip business class tickets.

Per this FyerTalk thread, there seem to be decent fares for winter travel between the East coast of the US and Europe. New York to Barcelona, for example, is pricing out around $1900 for the roundtrip in Business class:

That’s an okay fare for business class travel this time of year, but by using the AARP discount you can bring this down to ~$1500:

On top of that, if you have the British Airways Visa Signature® Card you can save an additional 10% as long as all flights are operated by British Airways.

The 10% discount is taken on the total fare – which includes taxes, fees, fuel surcharges, etc. You do have to be an US based British Airways Visa cardholder, and must be flying a roundtrip from the United States.

Just enter the promotion code “CHASEBA10” under the “Save money on your booking” section (you’ll have to open the drop-down menu to see all the options):

And you’ll see the 10% discount reflected in the final fare price:

In terms of pure cents per mile, this isn’t quite as good of a deal as the flights from the West coast, but obviously more convenient for East coast flyers. If you can stack the AARP and Chase discounts it’s even better! It’s certainly a better value than La Compagnie at a similar price 😉

It’s also worth mentioning you can still get the AARP discount on British Airways codeshare flights, though those flights won’t be eligible for the Chase 10% discount. If you’d prefer the direct American flights to Barcelona, for example, those would still qualify for the $400 discount:

This is available to and from quite a few markets, though I’m boarding a flight right now and can’t search all of them. I figured it was better posting about it now, as I’m sure this fare won’t last.

Hopefully some of you are able to take advantage of this!

  1. Theres actually a 15% coupon available that brings the price down even further and another link(not AARP) that discounts it by $500 per J rt. I can price out itins for around 1k.

  2. I notice that the AA metal BCN flight is on the redone 763, with 4 fully flat J seats across.

Do we have any reports on those seats? I’ve read good things about the J 777-300, but nothing about the new 767 hard product. Or is AA using the same seats for both planes?

  3. Let me rephrase that…. can’t see it anywhere except the JFK flight during Thanksgiving week. I wonder if that is what they are trying to do…. fill otherwise empty European flights for that week. Unfortunately, I’ll be in Cabo 😉

  4. Just curious about the best websites that would be able to book the low fares that you sometimes find on ITA matrix? Expedia, orbitz, direct airline website, or ???

  5. @Ben and everyone else, if you search hard enough you can find some ex-JFK fares to HEL (and possibly MAD) via Air France on the flights that feature their new business class product for under $2,100. If any distinguished blogger among us wishes to review AF’s new J product… hint, hint… there’s a great way to do it!

  6. There’s a biz sale going on ex-Europe for much of Nov/Dec and spring 2015.
    Found a fare FRA-OSL/ARN/CPH-NYC in J for Euro 1330 all in, dates 27/12 – 11/01

LH, LX, AC, UA also US Air come in around Euro 1800-1900 for same dates.

Also available from other cities, LHR, ZRH, etc. with slightly higher fares.
