Summer in Tuscany

Summer in Tuscany

I took my Mom to Italy in May of this year. Below is a trip summary. Feel free to ask any questions.

Aloft SFO (Cash)
I had not stayed in a Starwood hotel in 2017, so I figured I would stay here to restart earning SPG points through Uber. Solid airport hotel with a shuttle. I had a room with a connecting door, and the neighbors were loud the whole night.

Domestic flights with wide-bodies are fun.

It was my first time flying Air France and my first time in reverse herringbone seats. It’s a bit hard to converse with someone even if you have the middle two seats. The window seats look awesome for traveling alone. Food was delicious. We left several hours late due to maintenance.

Inter Europe business class is nothing special. We had a very hard landing in Florence with an very quick stop. I think this a function of the very short runway. We were in an Airbus A318. The flight attendant warned the couple who were connecting from La Premier, but nobody else on the flight…

NH Collection Porta Rossa (Cash)
This is a great hotel in the heart Florence. Solid breakfast buffet. I’m a big fan of the NH Collection hotels (even if the NH loyalty program is nothing to write home about).

Grand Hotel Continental Sienna (Cash via Amex FHR)
I have mixed feelings about this hotel. The front desk staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The restaurant staff were a bit aloof and disorganized. The rooms are nice, but they aren’t exactly to my style. I loved the high ceilings in the rooms. We booked this through Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts, since there was a 3rd night free offer.

Park Hyatt Milan (Points)
Lovely hotel. Fantastic location. Amazing bathroom.

“Real” Champagne on a shorthaul flight is a treat 🙂

Park Hyatt Paris (Points)
It’s a nice hotel, but it’s not my cup of tea. I prefer to stay Le Marais.

CDG to IAH on AF in J (Flying Blue miles)
Solid flight.
