AMEX vs Chase Sapphire Rental Car Insurance

AMEX vs Chase Sapphire Rental Car Insurance

  1. JW1 New Member

I live one the east coast in a city where I don’t own a car or have car insurance. I am renting a car for two weeks around the holidays this year (2016) when I am in California. Is it better for me to pay with the Chase Sapphire Preferred card to get the premium included insurance, or should I go the route of using my Amex and paying the extra money to Amex (roughly a dollar a day) to get their insurance? Also can someone explain how liability works if god forbid there’s an accident that goes beyond the standard fender bender?

    Thanks!

@JW1, If you have the CSP which offers primary coverage you shouldn’t need the AmEx unless they offer liability or some other benefits. I would call them and get written descriptions of things they cover. Most carriers have an insurance coverage department whose reps have been well informed in my experience.
