China Southern (I know, I know!)

China Southern (I know, I know!)

    Hi Everyone,

I thought I might just get people’s expertise here as well, in regards to my travel.

I know China Southern has a bad reputation, but they had the cheapest tickets in first, and I booked very last minute. Also I’d be able to add miles to my Skypass account. So don’t bash me about it, but I want to see what champagne they offer 😉

I just have a question in regards to China Southern’s meet and greet for Business/First passengers. if anyone has experience with china southern flying business class/first class, or just China Southern in general, you expertise is appreciated!

So I’m flying from Auckland to Guangzhou then onto JFK in First. Transit is 10hrs, therefore I am eligible for the ’24hr transit visa’. I just have a couple of questions.

    a) Upon arriving at CAN, I am told that I will get a meet and greet assistance for all premium cabin passengers. What is your experience with this?

    b) For those of you who have gained free accommodation before, how does it work? Do I follow the arrival signs or transit signs to the desk to pickup my accommodation voucher? I sense arrivals because I am leaving the airport?

    c) Since I am only staying for 24hrs, do I need to pick up my bags because I am technically ‘entering’ china for 24hrs?

    Thanks again!

Hi @AlexU – I Googled [ “China Southern” overnight ] and while there were some hits, none seemed to be very recent (as in, this year).

Maybe one of our readers can help out?

I dont have much experience with CZ so I can’t help with their free accommodation or meet and greet services at CAN.

However, at AKL, you can check your bags all the way to JFK; I don’t think a transfer in CAN requires picking up bags and rechecking. However,I could be wrong as I’ve never connected in CAN, only started or ended journeys there.

Since you only have about 10 hours, have you thought about what you’re planning to do in the CAN for such a short period? the metro is a great way to get to and from the airport but in my experience, it can get very crowded, rush hour or not, especially on the older metro lines.

I would also leave plenty of time to clear immigration when heading back to the airport for your onward flight to JFK. I’ve had long waits for passport control and security, even as a premium passenger, even late at night.
