JL3 schedule change

JL3 schedule change

  1. Carl New Member

Hello, I saw Lucky’s post yesterday about a schedule change of JL3: it will depart from JFK at 11:30 after March 27. However, upon checking, this schedule change has only been reflected on flights until October 28, 2017; flights later still has a 9:15 am departure time. I am kind of wondering if this is just a system update delay or is Japan Airlines not going to change the schedule of JL3 later than Oct 28? (PS: I am aware of the winter time of the US so flights after Nov 4 (which is the start date of US winter time in 2017) should depart at 10:30 am from JFK to NRT). So is there a educational guess on this problem? Thanks.

Airlines sometimes issue flight changes & updates seasons at a time. It might just be that the schedules for 10/28/17 and onward have not been updated yet.

Or the changes might only be for the summer season…

    Thanks for the explanation!

Grrrrr, I really hope that this is not the situation because my flight from RDU to JFK is 6am to 7:30 pm, which only gives me 1 hour and 45 min to transit. (From JFK terminal 8 to terminal one)

@Gaurav is probably right although airlineroute usually says if it’s just for the summer season or not, which I dont think I saw as part of the update. Only time will tell.

Is your flight from RDU on the same ticket as your JAL flight? If it is, you should be protected.

Thanks for replying. The report only says that the departure time will be 15 min late between May to August. Unfortunately, they are not on the same ticket. That is why I am concerned with this flight change. If it turns out that departure time is still 9:15, I will have to get into New York a day before the flight to avoid miss connection.

Can be done! We did the opposite in 18/21 minutes a few months ago.

Wow! That’s great news. But I am traveling on separate tickets so I have to recheck my bag in T1. Then is it still manageable? Thanks.

I wouldn’t recommend it with checked bags, actually. It could take 35 minutes for the bags to come off the belt at JFK, and you probably wouldn’t be able to run with them.

The check-in cut off for JAL business class passengers is 45 minutes before departure, so if everything is on time it could still work, but if you had any delays, or had to wait for a gate…

    Possible, but probably stressful.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I believe my best option then is to get into NYC a day earlier. But if the schedule changes, I will have enough time to connect in the morning.
