10 Day Standard U.S. Passport Turnaround Time

10 Day Standard U.S. Passport Turnaround Time

This is not much of a question but I wanted to share a semi success story here and see if anyone had the same experience. My passport was due to expire in November and don’t have any international travel coming up for a few months so I figured it would be a great time to renew, figuring they have a 4-6 week posted turnaround time (as I did not pay for expedited processing) however I was surprised when I received my new passport TEN(!) days after I sent it, which means they took 3-4 working days to process it! I sent it out on July 20th (via priority mail) and got my new passport on July 30th. Has anyone else experienced this recently? I have Global Entry and unsure if that speeds up processing time as they have a more complete traveler profile on me. However if your passport is coming up for renewal in the next six months you may want to send it in soon and may get the same processing times as I did!

In full disclosure, I did order a passport card too and have not received that yet nor have I received my old passport back, but I expect those this week

I had the same experience 4 years ago when I renewed my passport. Did not have Global Entry back then.

Time of year must have a lot to do with it. I recall my first renewal 10 years ago was pretty quick but when I renewed this spring it took about a month. Guess people preparing for summer travel get the process backed up a bit.
