SPG nights when not staying at a hotel

SPG nights when not staying at a hotel

    Hi everyone,

I’m currently SPG Gold at 35 nights. I have a trip coming up at the end of the year which will put me up to 44 nights.

Obviously I’ll be super close to Platinum but not quite there.. what are my options? I emailed SPG and asked if there was a challenge or extension I could get (I expect to stay at least 7 nights in January), but they said there was nothing they could do.

I’d actually be willing to book a cheap place somewhere and not stay there just to get the last nights and get Platinum. If I book somewhere but don’t show up, I understand I’ll be charged a cancellation fee, but will I still get the nights to count towards my status? I have heard mixed reports on this.

Any other ideas of what I could do?

    Thanks!

    Hi @pat, and welcome!

You would need to show up, or at least check-in. Occasionally you’ll find a hotel manager willing to check you in without you being physically present, but that’s more if you already have an established relationship.

There’s a chance online check-in at a hotel with Keyless could work, but I haven’t tried it to know for sure.

    Thanks Tiffany!

OK that’s annoying.. I hadn’t thought about a Keyless option. That might work actually. I might try one night first to see and then book the rest.
